Chapter 10

Tobin's POV

(Time skip - March 31, 2010)

"Babe," Alex yelled from the bathroom, "do you have a hair tie? I bought a 75-pack last week but I can't remember where I put it."

I didn't bother looking up from my phone. "Did you check your bag?"

"Which one?"

"Your duffle bag. The one you use for games."

I heard footsteps, followed by a zipper, and a relieved sigh. "I don't know how I haven't been diagnosed as mentally insane yet."

I chuckle. "Because I'm the only thing keeping you sane."

"That, you are." She smiled while walking up to me. She sat next to me on the bed, and snuggled up next to me. I put my phone down and hugged her.

"You know," I started, "it's just a game. You've played so many before. This is nothing. You got this, Lex." I kissed the top of her head.

She hugged me tighter. "Yeah, but, it's the senior team. I'm here, and I don't know if I should be."

"Don't talk like that, your here because we all saw something in you and we wanted that on our team. Thank god you're not playing for Colombia or something, or else we'd have to go up against you. Lord knows what we'd do to stop you."

She smiled at me and kissed me. "I needed that, thanks."
I smiled back. "What you need it to get your fine ass on that bus, or we're gonna be late."
Alex pouted. "Fine."

It's halftime. The score is 0-0, and the team was dominating. I had an ankle injury, but I still managed to convince Pia to let me come with the national team.

Alright ladies, we're doing okay. We have to be burying those shots, though. Abby, Carli, keep at it." Pia looked around the room until her eyes stopped on Alex and Casey. "You two. I want you to come on. Make a difference. Help the team score. Defend. Do what you must. Mexico isn't an easy team; we need to win this game."

I stared at Alex the whole time, really because she was staring at me, mouth gaping. I crutched over to her and sat on the bench, putting my arm around her shoulder.

"Hey, hey, you're gonna do fine. You'll do great, even. It's okay."

She gave me a petrified look. "Tobs, I don't know. I mean, in front of all those people, and Abby, and Kristine? Tobin, I've been looking up to Kristine Lilly since I knew what soccer was. And for me to be on the same team as her, and play with her, and just breathe the same air?" She shook her head, and looked down at the ground. "I can't do this Tobin."

I made he look at me by grabbing her chin with my index finger and thumb. "Don't. Say. That. You're here. You're good. You're great. You're gonna do great. You're gonna be playing next to Abby Wambach! Do you want to make a fool of yourself in front of her?"

She shook her head again, more violently this time. "No. Of course not. Never."

"Then play like you always do. Play like you're in your back yard, with Jeni and Jeri. Play like you know how to play. Okay?"

"Okay." She gave me a small smile and hugged me. I hugged back. When she stood up, I gave her butt a light tap. "Go get 'em, tiger."

"rawr," she growled at me and laughed. "Thanks Tobin." And with that, she left the locker room to go warm up on the sideline.

~*~Soooooooo I'm sorry. Sorry for taking so long to update. Sorry for the short filler chapter. Sorry for all of it. I wanted to update, but tennis has taken up a lot of my time, then there's homework, and I gotta help my brother with homework, it's not ideal conditions. This weekend tho I'm gonna write a lot. There's gonna be a few time skips because I really want the story to move along. Now, away from that. Julie scored twice last night and Alex scored and we won and SOFIA HUERTA MADE HER USWNT DEBUT AND LIKE WOW I STAN HER SO MUCH I love her with everything in me like she's so amazing and so pure and so cute and wow I can't AND SHE ASSISTED ALEX like I need a breather AND KELLEY GOT HER 100TH CAP BUT ALI ISNT ON THE TEAM BUT TOBINS BACK AND oml I love life except for the fact that Ali isn't there like that shouldn't happen and Camila was on the roster for Brazil but she got taken off why tho. I'm hyped for Monday tbh all the team needs now is DANIELLE JESSICA COLAPRICO and ALEXANDRA BLAIRE KRIEGER and I'd be happy. Also does anyone notice how Sofia just doesn't know what to do with her tongue when she's playing like she doesn't know what her mouth is or what is does lmao the photo is at the top she's so pure and cute it's like she got stung by a bee wow what a woman ANYWAYS bye ilysm~*~
