She was energized when she woke up from her slumber. Kintau threw her legs around the bed and hopped off. For some odd reason, something was off. It was much quieter than it had been when she went to sleep, though she still heard the construction.
No one was around. Everyone was crowded in the Mess Hall. It looked like a meeting. She ran over to the wall next to the entrance and overheard them and looked into the window. The curtains were drawn but there was a tiny opening where she could look in; "...We all know about the attacks on Burkwood and what have we done to stop it?" A man said.
"And I'm pretty sure we've all realized that Lord Kintau is not reliable anymore!" A woman responded.
"That's enough!" That was a voice she knew: Sophie. "Lord Kintau has done nothing but do her best to keep you all safe."
The man argued with her, "All she's done was destroy our village!"
"You think you could do better?" She yelled in his face.
She did not get an answer from him, assuming she had won that argument. A smile formed on Kintau's face, her best friend had her back after the many times Sophie has been there for her when Kintau needed her most. She was always there.
Sophie looked over at the window, squinting. Kintau did not move, she continued to stare inside, a subtle tear racing down her cheek. She closed her eyes tightly as her guard started toward the doors. But when Sophie got outside, her lord was not there. She did not even know if Kintau was there in the first place but she just figured she was hallucinating.
You there, shortie? The voice in her head again.
Yeah, I'm here. She replied, rushing over to a random house and hiding behind it, tears running down her face. Why are you coming in now?
You sound upset. He said. What's wrong?
Nothing. Don't...Don't worry about it.
Listen, She could feel it. She felt his emotions. She had this feeling. But it wasn't like the feelings you know you can control, this was one that affected her whole body. I get that you don't know a lot about this 'speaking in mind' thing. I don't either. He paused. Maybe we could figure it out together?
Kintau smiled, she might've looked crazy just with her goofy smile for no reason but no one was around. The man laughed, she felt it. You're smiling. I know it.
Cocky much? She chuckled. I don't even know who you are or why I want to know you.
He hesitated, but he realized something. He realized he couldn't trust a lot of people. He thought Eliphas was a good guy before he made the man his slave. My name is Miles.
She felt his presence leave her. She couldn't feel him anymore. She wiped the blood that was streaming down from her nose. His name was Miles. Miles... She thought. Where have I heard that name— She remembered. It was so clear now.
When she was a teenager in high school, her mother had a friend. Her name was Aria. Aria had four children, three daughters and a son. Her daughters were in Kintau's grade, their names were Ana, Hana, and Bianca, and her son was in college. Kintau's mother, Marianna, wanted her to befriend the girls but she had no interest in what they liked. They were into makeup and nail painting and doing their hair all pretty, but she never liked any of that. She was studying at their house with one of the girls, Hana, and had to go to the bathroom. She got up, opened the door, and ventured through the halls trying to find the restroom in this enormous house. Suddenly, her son hastily pulled his door open as she was walking past it. She and him were friends in some way, though she heard his name a few times she didn't know him very well. He grabbed her arm and pulled her to him, placing his cold hands on the sides of her face and allowing his lips to softly go with hers. He was arched, her being so short and him a lot taller than her. He kissed her. His one side of curly, longish hair tickled her eyebrow. However, she didn't pull away from him. Her hands rose up to his neck, wrapping her arms around him while on her toes. She wasn't thinking. Not in that moment. She didn't think anything could ruin this right now. He released from her, opening his icy blue eyes and stared down into hers. He quickly said he he was sorry and scurried back into his room. She was in shock, but she smiled, turning around to go back to Hana's bedroom.
She never thought she would ever see him again. Maybe he knew who she was when Eliphas wanted him to kill her. Maybe that's why he didn't.
