She looked up into the windows to see people partying in clothes worn back in the fifties. They looked uncomfortable with almost their whole heads of hair covered with hairspray. Their dresses looked way too tight but apparently they could still move. She crept around to another side of the building and looked into the window. A dressing room filled with fifties dresses and bottles of hairspray lining a makeup table with a giant mirror and all different types makeup.
Surprisingly, the window was open. She slipped it open and crawled inside, rolling onto the floor. She got up, brushing off her outfit and finding her way into the closet of dresses that were worn back then. She picked up a long sleeved, short navy blue dress with hot pink ribbons on the top of the sleeves. She pulled off her clothes and slipped on the dress which was a little too tight around her waist but she would just have to live with it. She sat down quietly at the makeup table and put on thick black mascara along with cat-eyeliner. She also put on pink lipstick and pearl dangling earrings. She pulled her hair into a messy bun with her side bangs hanging out of it.
She was ready. She looked in the mirror but she didn't look like Kintau, she just looked like some girl. But maybe if someone looked close they could probably tell it was her.
She opened the door but when she tried to walk out she was stopped. Eliphas. "Well hey there." He said, looking down at her. "You look stunning."
He couldn't know it was her. She had to play this off. Even if her blood was boiling at the sight of his almost completely red eyes. "Thank you..." She replied quietly.
"Quiet one, yes?" He asked with a chuckle. "Best get down to the party," His warm hand touched her cheek. "I'm sure everyone will want to dance with you, gorgeous."
She gave him a fake smile and rushed passed him as fast as she could without him realizing who he was talking to. She ran down the stairs to an echoey room blasting nineteen hundreds music. There was a slow song on at the moment, women danced with men all close. It brought her back to when she was in high school, the good old times.
She stepped down from the last step and walked over to a chair at the other side of the room until an upbeat song came on. She turned around to see everyone starting to dance but not with their hands on each other, they were just dancing.
A hand pulled on Kintau's arm and spun her, then picked her up and swung her around above him and when she landed on the floor they dipped her. When she finally got a chance to look at the person, he was shocked. It was him. Miles.
She was pulled up to stand up straight, but she was just surprised. "It's you." She said.
"Hey." He replied. He still had his long, curly hair and his piercing blue eyes. "Long time no see, short stack."
She shoved his shoulder but then pulled him into a hug. He kissed her cheek as he wrapped his arms around her neck. "What was that move?"
"Little somethin' I learned. Don't request it, not happening again." He loosened from her and looked down into her eyes. "Wow, you really haven't changed. Well, you're still beautiful."
Her face flushed red. "Shut up." She said quietly. "What about you," She reached her hands up and played with his hair while he had his arms around her. "you still have your same old curly hair from when I was in high school."
"You still remember that?" He picked up his hand and moved her bangs from her eye, then putting it with his other hand that rested on her back. "Wow."
"Listen, I'm not here to talk about high school or any of that kind of stuff. I'm here because I need to know why you didn't kill me that day."
The song changed, slow song again. She lifted her hands up to his neck but Miles grabbed her one hand and stared at her cut. "Did someone do this to you? What happened?"
"Nothing." She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck. "I just tripped."
He placed his hands on her waist, "Anyway, you wanted to know why I didn't kill you. Well, I didn't because... as soon as I saw your face I knew who you were. I just... I couldn't do it. Not after what I did to you and never speaking to you after it."
Kintau nodded, she understood. Suddenly, Eliphas spoke at the front of the room. "May I have my best man come to the stand?"
Miles put his head down, "That would be me." He let go, walking away.
"No..." She grabbed his hand. "You don't have to do this."
"He will kill me if I don't, Kintau." He looked serious. His eyes were wide, his teeth gritted. "So yes, I have to do this. For my life and yours."
She let his hand go, allowing him to walk up to the front of the room. Eliphas smiled, "Hello there, Miles." His smile fell. "Who was that woman you were dancing with."
Kintau's eyes filled with fear. Miles looked over at her, "Her name is... Nina."
"Ah," He pointed at her, motioning for her to come up to the front of the room. "Nina is rather... dashing tonight, don't you think?"
"Yes, she uh... she looks amazing." He fumed.
Kintau walked up to them and stood, not knowing what to say. Eliphas put his arm around her, her blood boiling. "Now, why did you dance with her specifically?"
"Because I wanted to know her." He said as calmly as he could.
"So," Eliphas grinned. "she means nothing except for someone you danced with?" Miles nodded. "Well then, you wouldn't mind if I were to, I don't know, kiss her?"
Miles's face burned red. Anger. "No, sir." He growled. "I... would not mind if you... kissed her..."
Eliphas laughed, "Very well then." He turned Kintau's face to his and pecked her lips. "Now, was that good enough or should I continue?"
He couldn't do it. "I think you need to stop. She did not come here for you to harass her."
"You look... angry. Is there something wrong with me kissing her?"
"Yes, sir." He gritted his teeth. "It isn't right."
Kintau did not say anything. But she was fuming. She grabbed for something behind her and found something to curl her fingers around. She had it in her grasp and swung it to try to stab Eliphas. Before it could reach him, he grabbed her hand.
"Kintau of Burkwood village, what a surprise to see you here."
