Chapter Five
Im so stunned about what just happened. Im still standing in the same spot and it has been about 15 minutes. I looked at my watch and I ran up the stairs, its 12:40. I’ve got about 15 minutes to get ready and then meet Seth. Could I meet Seth after what just happened?
I was in my room and pushed that question to the back of my mind because I am going to meet Seth and nothing is going to stop me.
It took me exactly 15 minutes to get ready and I was now dressed in my skinny jeans and red shirt with a white cardigan. I took about 5 minutes to straighten my hair and didn’t bother with any make-up. The whole time getting ready I thought about telling Seth about his brother but how could I tell him that? I left my house just before one and walked to the park. It only took me a few minutes as the park was only a few streets away. I passed Seth’s car when I entered the park.
As I walked further in the park, I could see Seth sitting on the bench. He was watching the rugby players in the field across from the park. Seth used to play rugby until he broke him leg in four different places, after that his parents didn’t think it was safe so they made him quit.
As I got closer to Seth, he didn’t seem to notice. I tip-toed the rest of the way behind him and when I was close enough I grabbed his shoulders and shouted “Boo!” I got many stares from children and strangers walking through the park but I didn’t care. Seth jumped a little then laughed when he realized it was just me. As soon as Seth jumped I was in fits of giggles. Through all my laughs, I heard Seth say,
“Hey.” He looked me in the eyes and I looked back. I gave him a smile and sat beside him. When I got on the bench he leaned over a kissed my cheek, which made me grin ear to ear.
“Hi.” I was suddenly nervous as I watched a little girl play on a swing, she was watching us and I gave her a small wave which she returned with a thumbs-up. I started to giggle again.
“You are in a happy mood, aren’t you?” Seth’s words made me stop laughing. I was the opposite from happy. All I could think about was Ross kissing me.
“I am.” I lied. He let out a sigh which I couldn’t ignore, “What was that for?”
“What?” he asked.
“The sigh, why did you sigh?” he waited a long time before saying,
“Ross is in town for another two weeks.” The mention of Ross made me stiffen. Seth kept talking,
“He says he needs to sort some things out, but he won’t tell me what.”
“D-Do you think he will stay for the whole two weeks?” I stuttered, I never stutter. I looked at the expression on Seth’s face. He was looking straight at me but I could tell he was in deep thought.
“When Ross says he’s going to do something, he does it.”
Hartley, your gonna regret this!
Im in trouble, but im not going to tell Seth. It would hurt him too much.
“Im going to talk to him and-.” I cut Seth off before he could go any further by putting my hand on his knee.
“Just don’t talk to him at all, he’s being a dick. Just let him get on with whatever he’s going to do and then he will leave…hopefully.” Seth’s head tilted his head down so he could see my hand placed on this knee.
“Promise me, you won’t get in any trouble over him?” I said it as I squeezed his knee. He looked up at me then nodded his head.
“I promise.” His tone sounded sincere and at that I believed that he would keep his promise, but will Ross keep away?
I gave his knee another squeeze then jiggled my fingers,
“Good, now lets have fun!” I stood up. I held out my hands to help him up but he didn’t hold my hands. He stood up on his own and shuffled past me.
“Hey!” I shouted after him. He turned around while smiling. Is he being serious? But then he held out his arms for me to hug him. I walked over and kept my smile in until I put my hands around his waist and looked up at him. As I was looking up he bent his head down.
Ross flashed through my mind. I quickly turned my head to look over at the swings. The little girl was no where in sight but I needed an excuse for not kissing Seth.
“We are in the middle of a play park with small children. Im pretty sure there parents wont approve.”
“I didn’t ask them for there damn approval and I don’t care what anyone says.” He pulled his hand away from my back and placed it on the side of my face. I let him bring my face to his.
“I do.” I said it and pulled back. I let my hands fall at my side but then I grabbed Seth’s hands from my back and pulled him to the swings.
“Where are we going?” he asked my curiously.
“Im pretty sure it’s called having fun, and we are starting over there.” I nodded my head towards the swings. I looked back to a now smiling Seth, and I was suddenly amused that I got Seth in a good mood.
