Chapter 1: The Break Up
" Hermione... Should we go out for dinner... tonight?" Ronald Weasley asked nervously as he met Hermione. Hermione smiled warmly, her brown eyes glowing with anticipation and her hair seeming to shine.
" Alright." she said.
She and Ron arrived at a fancy restaurant and sat down, ordering drinks as Ron fumbled with his collar.
" Hermione, I don't want to drag this longer so... I'm so sorry but I'm breaking up with you." Ron said all this very fast and Hermione stared at him, and even though she had caught every word, she wanted him to repeat again.
" Say that again. Slowly." Hermione said, closing her eyes, hoping desperately that it was just a nightmare.
Ron visibly gulped.
" We've been dating for a while-" Ron started but Hermione cut him off.
" Five years. Yes. That's quite a while." Hermione said in a tone that wasn't unlike Minerva McGonagall's.
" I'm breaking up with you. " Ron said, suddenly taking an interest to his glass of water.
Hermione glared at Ron before getting up and walking away, her heels clinking every step she took as she walked out onto the street and, trying to hide her tears, went to a secluded corner before apparating, disappearing in a swirl of colours.
Hermione walked into The Hog's Head a minute later, sitting down and ordering a firewhisky. She was about to pay when she saw a galleon being thrust to the barman in front of her. She turned to see a familiar pale face, the grey eyes she once hated and a tuft of platanium blonde hair.
