Chapter 2: He's such a jerk
" Malfoy?" Hermione said uncertainly, staring at Draco.
Draco's grey eyes shone with a tinge of blue for the first time as he looked at Hermione. Draco seemed to want to say something, yet he looked like he couldn't bring himself to say it.
" What's... Wrong? You... You shouldn't be here Granger." Draco said quietly as the barman handed Hermione her glass of firewhisky. Hermione didn't intend to drink yet she found herself raising the glass to her lips and taking a bug gulp of the firewhisky.
" Ron... He broke up with me." Hermione said, tears rolling down her pale cheeks.
Draco continued to look at her, as though searching her face for something.
" Why are you looking at me like that?" Hermione asked, half sobbing, her brown eyes finding Draco's grey ones.
" Nothing. I just... Had a rough day too." Draco said, his eyes not breaking the contact with Hermione's eyes.
They stared at each other for just a moment more before both looked away.
Draco ordered a firewhisky and downed it.
Seeing this, Hermione lifted her own glass.
It was as if the pair had an unspoken agreement. They both kept drinking, communicating with just their eyes. Both keeping extremely silent, until the silence was finally broken.
" Why are you here?" Hermione asked Draco, swaying slightly. Draco looked at her and smirked.
" Astoria cheated on me." he muttered so that only Hermione could hear.
Hermione suddenly hugged him.
" I'm so sorry to hear that." Hermione whispered. Draco closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around Hermione, giving in to the feeling of comfort that came over him at Hermione's touch.
" It's nothing. I'm sorry about Weasley, I guess." Draco replied.
" Oh. Him? He's such a jerk." Hermione rolled her eyes as she pulled back.
The two drank late into the night and when the dirty clock on the wall struck 3 am, Hermione let out a groan.
" Oh god! I forgot! I have to go... I have work. Damn." Hermione made to leave but started swaying and almost fell, with Draco grabbing her arm to steady her.
" I'll send you home. Where do you live?" Drack asked with a concerned expression.
Hermione told him her address and Draco apparated her back to her apartment. He carried her to her bed and lay her down, sighing, before leaving.
