Chapter three
My bags were packed, and I was ready to go, I went through my list a checked everything off. My flight left at 9am, I looked down at my phone and it was only 5am. I know it’s early but I’d rather be safe and not sleep in. I text Jess and Tori to wake them up and they had everything packed as well. I was a bit nervous about the flight for a few reasons, first, it was my first flight overseas and second, Jess and Tori were on a different plane to me. I knew everything would be fine, but there’s always that nervous feeling that tips you off.
We packed my bags into the car and headed off for Tullamarine airport. The traffic was pretty good and there were no delays. That was a good sign. We arrived at the airport just before 8. I text Jess and Tori to see where they were and they were already there. I got my bags are we walk to the luggage claim, I was feeling so nervous, I didn’t really want to leave mum and dad or Leah. We arrived at the gates and now it was time to leave mum and dad, I had to head through customs and only I could go in. I felt a little teary but so excited at the same time. I gave mum and dad a huge hug and then Leah. “Be safe over there Kady, and make sure you, Jess and Tori all stay together” “I promise mum, I’m going to have such an amazing time, I’ll take heaps of photos for you”. I hugged everyone one last time and said goodbye.
I was about to embark on my first journey without my parents, and overseas too. This would be a scary one.
I got the all okay in customs and went and waited at my terminal. I text jess and Tori to see where they were at, they said that they had made it through customs fine to and were also waiting at their terminal. They said they were nervous as hell and Tori’s dad wanted to cry when they said goodbye. An announcement went over the speakers telling everyone that is was time to board the flight for my plane. I text Jess and Tori to say that I was turning my phone off and about to board the plane. I gathered my bags and myself, feeling very overwhelmed. The excitement in me was almost making me as nervous as my nerves were. I laughed to myself, and took a deep breath. I grabbed my passport and ticket out of my carry on and queued up. The line moved slowly but I eventually made it to the little desk with the pretty lady standing behind it. “passport please” I handed the lady by the name of Jenna my passport, she stamped it and handed it back, “ticket please” once again I handed over my ticket, “this is my first time overseas, is the plane trip really that bad” I looked at the flight attendant wondering if she could say anything other than ‘ticket please, passport please’, she smiled at me and shook her head, well that answered that question, maybe she wasn’t allowed to say anything else. She handed back my ticket and pointed in the direction of the door, for a moment I hesitated, and considered making a run for it, “gather yourself Kady, how would Jess and Tori feel if you did that” I thought loudly in my head. I stepped aside and Jenna opened the door for me, and in I went.
I settled into my seat, fortunately I was allocated a window seat which I was very happy about. It was a nice plane, the seats seemed comfy enough and the window was only little so I couldn’t fall out, I chuckled at myself. I put my carry on in the over head bins and put my seat belt on. The flight attendants were walking up and back helping everyone settle in for the twelve hours flight. “mam, may I offer you a drink before we take off” I looked up and one of the flight attendants were standing there waiting for me to answer, she had a love navy blue skirt suit on with a white ruffled top underneath, she had a little matching scarf around her neck and her hair pulled back into a tight bun. I thought that she looked very smart. “ahh, yes please, can I please have a bottle of water”, the smart looking flight attendant lent over into her trolley that she was pushing and pulled out a bottle of water and handed it to me. “Thank you” I said politely as she smiled and carried on.
