Chapter two

The week had gone by very slowly and I was struggling immensely with heat, I had quite a lot of homework and was under the pump with working extra shifts at work. I worked the Thursday night and did a 5 hour shift and I worked yesterday (Friday) and did a 6 hour shift, so I was feeling pretty tired. I was standing around at work tonight seeings we didn’t have many people in. I was telling Kate all about our plans to go overseas and how I was very excited but I still hadn’t asked mum and dad. Kate said she would love to travel to London but with her being in uni and working full time she just didn’t have the time.

“Kady, do me a favour when you get over to Ireland” “sure thing Kate, what would you like me to do” “find a lovely Irish boy with blond hair and blue eyes and bring him back over here for me” I laughed, “of course I’ll do that for you Kate” she gave me a pat on the back, and as she turned to walk over to her tables that she was tending she said “and don’t forget Kady, bring one back for yourself too” I smiled and her and went back to work.

I worked all day Sunday and by Sunday night I was feeling exhausted. When I got home from work I jumped into the shower and had tea, I then got my laptop out and lied down on my bed. The prices of flights had risen from $1600 being the lowest price to $1750; it had gone up $150 in price in just one week. I got on the phone to Jess and told her, she said that we would have to book our flights this week, no matter what. “Jess, I haven’t even asked mum or dad yet, and I’m sure that they are going to want to think about it first” “Kady, I think our best bet will be to just book the flights and then tell your mum and dad” “Yeah right, Jess, they would kill me” “Well do you have a better plan?” “No, but Jess” “Kady, we don’t have any other option” “alright, I’ll talk to you tomorrow”, we said our goodbyes and hung up. Seriously, what the hell was I going to do?

I went and sat in the longue room with the rest of the family who were watching Get Away.

“Get online within the next 24 hours and check out our great travel packages, fly all over the world on a budget and let us do the rest, limited time only, condition apply,  travel destinations include India, south Africa, Bali, London and Egypt”

“BINGO” I screamed, mum and dad looked at me in horror, “What, I love bingo” I smiled and ran out of the room; I jumped onto my bed almost crashing into the wall and logged into Get Away. I quickly scanned through the travel packages looking for London, this was our only ticket otherwise I just wouldn’t be able to afford it. I found it and read through it.

Perfect I thought, I text Jess and Tori and told them the website address and what to look for, I was so excited, now all I had to do was book it, pay for it and well, tell mum and dad, but I’d get around to that last. I slept like a baby that night.

I woke up refreshed a rearing to go the next morning. I met Jess and Tori at the front of the school and we all walked in together, we discussed everything and Tori told us how her dad thought it was perfect, Jess and I both had enough money to pay for the trip strait away as well. “tonight when we get home we have to book the trip before it ends” Tori and I both agreed with Jess, “and then I’ll get around to telling mum and dad in a couple of weeks”, I thought about how I was going to do that and I wasn’t quite sure. “Well make sure you text me when you and Tori book it, and I’ll text you when I book mine” Tori and Jess set an alarm on their phones and we parted ways to class.

I text Tori and Jess once I had booked everything that night and they both had everything booked as well, now everything was really starting to come along and it was becoming to feel so real, I was really going to England. I checked my calendar to start for the countdown till the trip, today was 14th of November, so it was only 21 days until I flew over seas for my very first time.

I thought about when I should tell mum and dad, and I thought the sooner I tell them the better. I thought about how I would go about it and all the scenarios that could occur, they all ended badly, but I was determined to go no matter what now, I had made my deposit and there were no refunds.

That week went by very quickly but the weather was still as hot as ever. Tori, Jess and I talked about everywhere we wanted to go and all the things that we wanted to see. We made a few different lists of the thing we needed to buy and the things that we needed to pack. I had roughly $800 in bank so I was feeling alright about the whole money situation.

Before I knew it, it was Thursday the 24th; it was only ten day until I flew out and I still hadn’t told mum and dad that I was going on a trip, I really had to do it soon and I wasn’t looking forward to it. I decided that I would do it that Saturday night over dinner, I felt a little nervous so I tried not to think about it.

Friday came around and it was the last day of school for the year, and before I knew it I was sitting at the dinner table and it was Saturday night. “hey mum, dad, I have something that I would like to tell you” they both eyed me looking interested, “ I umm, a few weeks ago Jess, Tori and I were all sitting down and talking about how nice it would be if we could escape this heat for a while” mum and dad didn’t say anything, they just kept eating with their eyes fixed on me, “well we thought it would be a great idea to go on a holiday to England and go see London, Paris, France and Ireland”, mum and dad seemed pretty chilled so far, but I hadn’t actually told them anything yet, so anything could still happen, “So, Jess, Tori and I...” suddenly I felt a huge lump in my throat, mum and dad  stopped eating “what were you saying Kady?” I started sweating; I had such a bad feeling “well?” mum just looked at me, “well... Jess, Tori and I, we sort of, we sort of booked a trip overseas” I thought I was going to throw up until the unexpected happened, mum and dad both started laughing. “What, what are you laughing at, why aren’t you yelling?” I just stared blankly at them. “Kady, we have known about this for weeks now” once again I stared at them with no expressions “what do you mean” “well we’re not dumb, we heard you talking on the phone to Tori and Jess and plus, Mark told us, so we have just been waiting for you to tell us”, I couldn’t believe it, I just didn’t know what do to with this, it was great news, they were clearly okay with all of this but I still didn’t know what to think, I mean it was my mum and dad, things like this don’t just go by without being questioned. “I don’t get it, do you have anything to say about this at all” mum shook her head, and dad smiled. Well that was that, and funnily enough it was a lot harder to take then if they had been mad.
