Chapter four

I stood there in a panic, I can’t have possibly lost my suit cases, maybe I’m just at the wrong luggage claims, yes, that has to be it. I bent down to grab my carry on but it wasn’t there, I swung my body around in a full circle looking at the ground, catching my foot on someone else’s foot, and stumbled head first into the ground. I felt so panicky, the tears in my eyes started to well up and surely enough over flowed. I quickly wiped my eyes hopping that nobody was watching and tried to push myself up, “OOOOOOOOUCH” I squealed and dropped back to the ground, my ankle felt like it was on fire. I let my head drop and the tears flow; sometimes you just can’t help it.

Unexpectedly, I was swiftly lifted off the ground from behind with two hands under my arms; I winced at the shooting pains in my ankle. I tried to turn around to see who was helping me but they were too close to me for me to get a glimpse at them. “Stay still” said a smooth male voice, and he steadily lifted me and propped his arm around my waist and pulled my arm around his neck. I turned my head to look at a very admirable young man, he would have had to only been a year or two older than me and he was not much taller than me. His dark brown eyes looked concerned but his sweet smile put a smile back on my face, he had a noticeably gorgeous jaw structure and dark brown shaggy hair, cut at a stylish ear length. The handsome man helped me walk over to the plastic seat and sat me down, next to me was nothing less than my carry on, right where I left it. I felt slightly foolish as I pulled my bag towards me, the young man laughed and sat down next to me, he held out his hand and charmingly said in his English accent “My name is Louis”.

I blushed as I shook his hand, “I’m Kady”, I looked down at my shoes, “thank you for helping me”, Louis laughed, “it looked like you needed a hand down there”, I looked up at him, “I really did”, and I laughed in embarrassment. Louis looked down at his watch and then back at me “where are you heading Kady?” I had completely forgot about the piece of paper that the man at the information desk had given me, I pulled it out of my pocket and read it, I looked back at Louis, “To be honest, I have no idea”, I handed Louis the scribbled on paper, a waited. “I know where this is, it’s on the other side of town” he handed me back the piece of paper, “how are you going to get there with all of your luggage?”, OH NO, I had completely forgotten about my luggage, I felt a lump rise in my throat and I once again wanted to cry. Louis looked at me “Kady, what’s wrong?” his sweet eyes rested on mine, “I don’t know where any of my suit cases are, I think they are at a different luggage claim” Louis’s nose crinkled and the straightened out again, “this is the only luggage claim”. I looked down at my shoes and sighed, where could my suit cases be? I mean, how couldn’t they possibly be anywhere else. I looked at the beautiful stranger, “what should I do?” here I was asking a complete stranger what to do, but what was I meant to do. “You could go and check the help centre upstairs, I’m sure that they will be able to do something”, okay, that was an answer I was looking for, I was glad I asked. “Thank you for your help Louis”, I smiled at him, and he smiled back “Anytime Kady, anytime”. He stood up and gave me one last smile; he turned and disappeared into the crowd.

Once I was back to reality, I was on a mission. I would go to the help centre and figure out where my luggage was, then I’d catch a taxi to my hotel (where I’m sure Jess and Tori were wondering where I was) and have a rest. I grabbed my carry on that was sitting beside me and stood up, “AHHHHHH”, my ankle, my bloody ankle, what on earth did I do to it. How was I supposed to walk anywhere if I couldn’t stand, I suppose I could ask someone to let me ride on their luggage trolleys but I don’t think many people would appreciate that. I giggled at the picture of me being pushed around on a trolley with someone’s suit cases.

I pulled my phone out to check the time; it was 10:10am. I had been down here for ages and I just wanted to rest. I looked around for something that could help me, but what was I looking for, besides a wheel chair. I thought for a moment, maybe I could try and walk to the next seat and then have a rest. I had to give something a go. I grabbed my carry on and stood up. I moaned at the pain, I tried to take as much pressure off my ankle as possible, but it was hard, and very painful. I slowly took a step but my ankle was about to buckle. I had two choices, one, I could sit back down and spend the rest of my trip on this seat or two; I could bare the pain and possibly make a dive for the closest seat. I didn’t like either of my options, I mean I didn’t want to lose my front teeth as well as my suit cases. I had to ask someone for help, otherwise I wasn’t going anywhere.
