I breathed deeply as the screen above the door to the simulation room was counting down. Once the timer reached zero the doors would open and my ability training would begin. The timer ended and a siren sounded three times before the doors in front of me slid open. A voice over the loud speaker sounded "The simulation has begun, retrieve the flag at the end of the environments within an hour or you will have to repeat the course again" it sounded like Ms Adams voice. I inhaled deeply before walking into the simulation.
Jungle was first. I trudged through the rainforest terrain, aware of my surroundings, keeping my guard up and ready for anything. Birds chirped as if I was actually in a jungle and I could see bugs flying around me. Then all of a sudden, the chirping stopped. My instincts kicked in and I dropped to a crouch behind a bush. Birds could sense natural disasters or danger in areas or even when the habitat is disturbed.
I focus on the area around me, trying to use my enhanced sense. After a few moments my ears popped and it was as if the world around me expanded. I could feel the ground beneath me, the earth worms wriggling underneath the soil that smelt like fertiliser. I could also hear the quiet footsteps of the soldiers that were slowly creeping towards me. They weren't far away, I had time to run and hide...wait hide, I had chameleon DNA, they could change colour in order to camouflage with their surroundings.
I grinned and silently congratulated myself for being so smart. I touched the tree next to me a dug my hands into the bark. I felt my skin tingle and I looked up to see that the soldiers had reached me. I panicked, thinking it didn't work and that I would definitely be seen but the soldiers passed me a few looking directly at me but then turning away. I held back a sigh of relief, not wanting to give away my hiding spot to the men armed with machetes and guns.
I waited until they were long gone before releasing my grip on the tree and sighing with relief. I continued on for a lot least 10 minutes before encountering my next obstacle. There was a clearing in front of me, I crouched down behind a tree as I looked at the tiger in awe. It was laying on a rock in a grass clearing, licking its paws. How the hell was I gonna fight this beautiful beast. Not knowing what I was doing, I stood up and started walking towards the tiger. The tiger looked up once it heard me moving and it jumped down from the rock. It growled baring its teeth at me and I slowed down. If I had animal in me maybe the tiger would sense that and would leave me alone but what were my chances. I could hear my heart beating fast and my blood pounded in my ears.
"Easy girl" I said as I realised it was female, holding my hands up. I could see that it's nose sniffed the air, it was picking up on my scent. After a few moments it closed its bared mouth and paced towards me. It bowed at my feet before rubbing its head on my hand. I exhaled sharply, in relief. What the hell just happened. I heard movement from behind me and I spun around. The soldiers had found me. I looked back at the tigeress. "Feel like helping me out?" I ask it and as if it understood what I said it started walking towards the armed men. I grinned "Good luck boys!" I called to them before I heard the tiger growl and attack them. I ran off the next area within sight now leaving the shouts and growls behind me.
Next was the rock area. I made my way trough the rocky terrain, careful not to loose my balance on the jagged rocks, I walked for five minutes without encountering anything but the I noticed talking up ahead. I crouched behind a rock and observed the armed soldiers from afar. I looked around for a way to attack them and eyed a rock face. I camouflaged myself on it and climbed up it with ease, I soon discovered that I must have chimp or monkey in my DNA. Once I was above them I through a rock on the other side of them, which made them jump two of the three walked to inspect the noise
and I used this to my advantage.I leaped onto the man and slammed him against a rock, knocking him out. "What was that?" I heard a man say and as they made it over small hill. I quickly ran over to them springing of a nearby rock and tackling one to the ground before taking the other one's gun and hitting him in the face with the butt of the gun. I go back to the other guy and grab him into a choke hold and knocking him out unconscious.
I throw him on the ground and sigh once I stood back up straight. I continued on, wondering what the next predator encounter would be, I didn't have to wait long because the commotion had attracted a hyena. It stalked towards me, its laughing growl taunting me. "C'mon you bastard" I sneer at it and it lunges.
I lunge to the side throwing myself out of its way. I saw it topple over before regaining its balance before charging at me again, this time leaping at me claws raised. I used this to my advantage at tackled it by the underbelly, which then cause is to roll, I didn't have time to process what was happening next because I was falling along with the hyena. I let go of the beast and grappled for something to grab on to as I fell down the apparent cliff that I hadn't noticed. My hands clasped a rock protruding form the cliff face and my body yanked to a stop.
I laughed. I had just killed a freaking hyena and I hadn't even thought twice about it. Adrian was right, everything came naturally like I was an animal myself. What the bloody hell had I let these people do to me. I had to admit though the awesomeness of the feats that I had just performed was mind blowing. Those terrorists better be ready because I feel like I could rip a head clean off.
