My mind spun. What the actual fuck was going on?
"Mom" I croaked out, my voice dry. She turned around with her eyebrows raised. I handed her he letter. She looked at it for a few moments before folding it up again and placing it onto the kitchen counter."What is it?" I asked my mother.
"Nothing good" she replied.::::::::::::::::::::::::
After breakfast, I had gotten changed into a pair of denim blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a pair of black vans that was scattered with tiny flowers on them. We didn't talk about the letter, instead mom told me to take Sofi to the park.
Once we got to the park, I let Izzy run amuck while watching her from afar. The letter had put me on edge and I found myself looking over my shoulder every minute. I watch Izzy play for an hour before getting ready to leave, but as soon as we're about to leave one of her school friends come by with their mom.
"Ashwee, can I stay and play with Sally for a while" Izzy please as her small figure reached her hands up and played with my shirt as she asked if she could stay.
"Ok, but not for too long" I replied after checking the time on my phone.
"Yay" she yelled and went Of with her friend, Sally to play."You two look like you have a good relationship" I turned around and saw Sally's mother approach me.
"Yeah...why do you ask that?" I asked, curious.
"Sally's older sister wants nothing to do with her most of the time, always complaining that Sally's annoying her most of the time" Sally's mom said sadly."She'll come around eventually" I said trying to encourage the mother. She smiled back at me.
"Your a good sister, Ashley" Sally's mom said patting my back.
"Thank you" I said, acknowledging her compliment. We stood there watching the kids for god knows how long making continuous small talk, until Izzy and I had to head back."Izzy, it's time to go, you need to go to your Karate lesson so" I called out to her. She looked at me and then turned to her friend, she said goodbye to Sally and ran over to me taking my hand, silently telling me she was ready to go home.
We walked back home and I was surprised to find mom's car gone. She must have gone out to get takeaway for lunch. I walked with Izzy to the front door, to find it already opened. Mom must have left in a hurry. I opened the door slowly and found the house completely empty. I sighed and ran a hand through my brown hair.
"Go sit in the couch Izzy, I'll take your shoes off" I told her. Izzy immediately took off to the lounge room and sat on the couch. I shut the door behind me and walked over to Izzy and took her shoes off.Izzy went off to play and I went upstairs to put my phone away. I took my shoes of and placed them in my shoe crate, neatly. I headed back downstairs in time to see mom pull up in the driveway. She locked the car and a power walked to the door.
"Mom what's wrong" I asked, noticing her shift in mood, from this morning.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I asked Walking with her inside again."Izzy's Karate lesson has been cancelled" she announced, before walking over to my little sister. I locked the door behind us before following her.
"That's okay mommy" I heard Izzy say. My sister ran off to play and my mother turned to me.
"Were staying home tonight" Mom said and that's what we did. Mom made us pasta for lunch and we stayed home tonight watching TV and playing board games. Once Izzy had gone to sleep mom and I stayed up playing cards, once the game was finished and mom had beat me again, I said goodnight kissing my mom on the forehead and went to take a shower.I was in my room when there was a knock on the door. I frowned and looked at the clock, it was 11:30 at night. I heard mom walked to the door and I looked over the edge of the railing of the stairs. She opened the door and my jaw dropped. 4 men armed with guns, were at our door.
"Emily Hunter, I'm sorry, it's time" the solider in front said. Now dad's note made sense I slowly backed up. A few more words were exchanged but I didn't hear them, but I'd did hear my mother's yell.
"Ashley, run"
