Chapter 5
"There's no way we would be engaged so quickly!" Kourin exclaimed, her heart palpitating and her face beet red. She couldn't believe what the young knight was saying!
Aichi was giving her a sly smile, it's like he's thinking about something and Kourin doesn't like whatever it is.
"Who gave you the rights?!" The princess said in an angry tone.
"The king did, he gave me a formal agreement. He said I have the right to marry one of you sisters, and I picked you." Aichi replied.
"But I don't agree to that!" Kourin retorted.
Aichi gave a light chuckle, he picked a flower from the ground and created a flower ring, he took Kourin's hand to him and gave her the ring.
"Even if you don't, it's an order. And I want to fulfill my promise to you from before, I'll protect you as a knight." Aichi smiled at the princess, he stared at her emerald green eyes. It was so mesmerizing that he started to blush lightly.
Kourin also blushed at what the young knight had told her, she cannot believe this would happen to her. "L-listen, even if it's still an order, I'm a princess. and I can tell Takuto to stop the engagement."
Yet what Kourin told only made Aichi snicker, Kourin got annoyed. Is this person mocking her?!
"I'm sorry, princess. But it says that the engagement cannot be stopped whatever you and I do."
"THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE! THERE'S NO WAY TAKUTO WOULD-" Before Kourin could speak more, somebody spoke.
"I had to."
Kourin and Aichi both looked at their backs and they found the king Takuto standing by the entrance of the garden. He has his arms crossed and he's frowning at the two.
"You told her already, Aichi?" Takuto asked and Aichi nodded.
"Yes, I believe it is time to tell her." Aichi replied.
Takuto gave a sigh before speaking, "Kourin, you must understand that I have to let you marry someone. It's not just because I want to, it's because we need to strengthen our allegiance with the clans of our kingdom."
Kourin gave a mad look and she gripped the cloth of her gown, she's so frustrated. She doesn't want to marry as she's only eighteen. She thinks it's so soon.
"Princess, I know you don't want to get married. But I think this is a good way to have good relationships with my clan and the main kingdom." Aichi said to her, he noticed her anger and he can't help but to get worried.
"But there is another way, isn't there?" Kourin asked.
Aichi shook his head, "I'm afraid I have to say no."
"What kind of engagement is this, Takuto?! You're basically chaining me to the leader of the Royal Paladins!"
Takuto gave a small laugh as he looked at Kourin, "Aren't you also the next leader of the subclan of the Royal Paladins? The Jewel Knights are going to be with you, so they need full support from the main clan."
"That's unbelievable..." Kourin sighed in defeat and she walked out of the garden, leaving the two alone.
"I'm sorry for the princess's attitude, she's literally in shock because of that." Takuto apologized.
"No, it's okay. It's all my fault for telling her right away, I ruined her mood." Aichi stated as he smiled awkwardly. He didn't know what to do with the princess now and he hoped that Kourin won't stay mad.
"Aichi, by the next two days. You and Kourin will have a formal engagement party so that everyone will know about the engagement between the young knight and the princess." Takuto told him.
Aichi bowed, "Yes, your majesty."
Takuto smirked, "I shall excuse myself then." He replied and walked away.
"Y-yes." Aichi watched as the king goes and he looked at the flowers on the garden, he felt nervous about what would happen by the next few days between him and the princess Kourin.
He only gave a small smile as he went back inside the palace.
