After two hours of journey without saying much, they finally arrived at their stop. It was a wooden platform and when they left the train. They had been assigned to someone called Professor Kirke, but nobody was there.

-The Professor knew we were coming?- asked Susan as nobody appeared there.

-Perhaps we've been incorrectly labeled?- said Edmund.

In the distance, they saw a carriage with a woman in it. When the carriage was closer, Peter asked her -Mrs McCready?-.

-I'm afraid so- The woman looked at them searching for the bags. -Is that it then? Haven't you brought anything else?-

-No ma'am. It's just us.- replied Peter politely.

-Small favours- commented Mrs McCready to herself.

Once they reached they house they all got astonished just by looking at it. It was like a museum with lots of rooms and antique objects. The Pevensies followed Mrs McCready through the house as she talked to them.

-The professor is unaccustomed to having children in his house, and as such, there are a few rules we need to follow. There will be no shouting or running, no improper use of the dumbwaiter- and just as Susan was going to touch an antique armour, Mrs McCready continued -NO touching of the historical artefacts and above all, there shall be no disturbing of the Professor-

Mrs McCready showed them to their rooms, first the boys and then the girls. They went to their respective rooms and unpacked their belongings. They all felt really awkward, they had nothing to do and it was a stranger's house, so they decided to reunite in the girl room after having dinner.

After dinner, in the room, they had the radio on as they were talking.

-German aircraft carried out several attacks on Great Britain last night- Susan entered the room and turn off the radio for their siblings not to worry.

-The sheets feel scratchy- Lucy complained with a tone of sadness in her voice. Susan approached her and wrapped an arm around her. -Wars don't last forever, Lucy. We'll be home soon.-

-If home's still there- remarked Edmund.

Susan turned around to Edmund. -Isn't time you were in bed?-

-YES, Mom!- replied Edmund before exiting the room

-ED!- warned Peter as soon as he heard Edmund's comment. He turned around and told Lucy -You saw the outside? This place is huge. We'll be able to do whatever we want. Tomorrow's going to be great. Really-

After that, everyone went back to their rooms and spent their first night there.
