No one expected this. Especially from Keith, of all people.
But now, the team was staring at Shiro, who was holding a sleeping six year old Keith on his back. The team stared in shock.
"How. The quiznack. Did this. Happen?" Lance said. Keith stirred, but he fell back to sleep instantly.
"I don't know. We got separated during the mission, and I found him crying and like this against a tree." Shiro replied. He still looked shocked at this, as well. Allura was the first to straighten up.
"Well, for the time being, we could run a scan of his vitals-"
"I don't think that would be necessary, princess." Pidge said. "My helmet visor has a vital scanner I implanted into it, and it's saying Keith is perfectly normal. I heard from some aliens back on the last planet that if you touch a certain plant on this planet, you'll go back to your younger self for a Quintent, so he should be fine by tomorrow." Allura's face dropped.
"Oh." The princess said grumpily. She looked like she actually wanted to do a vital scan. Shiro sighed.
"Look, I don't know how we can fix this, but let's just-" Shiro was cut off by a sleepy Keith.
"S-Shiro...?" The young Paladin asked. Everyone turned their attention to him and he looked at everyone, slightly frightened. "Wh-who are they...?" His voice sounded weak and frightened.
"These are the other Paladins, Keith." Shiro said softly. He put down Keith, who hid behind him. He looked like he was scared out of his mind and preventing tears. Shiro pointed to everyone as he said their names. "That's Allura, Coran, Pidge, Hunk, and Lance. They're our friends." Keith looked up to shiro, but remained hidden behind him.
"Wh-where are w-we...?" Keith asked.
"We're on the Castle-Ship, buddy." Lance said calmingly. Having many younger siblings and cousins growing up, he was a natural at helping scared kids get used to their surroundings. Keith hid behind Shiro more and closed his eyes, tears welling at the corners of them. Lance looked at Keith sadly and then squatted in front of him. "Don't worry. We're the good guys." He smiled quirkily at the younger version of Keith. The kid poked his head out slightly and looked up at Shiro, who gave him a reassuring smile. He came out from hiding and stared at the floor, rubbing his eyes.
"How about you get some sleep, Keith?" Hunk said from behind them. Keith nodded and Shiro helped him to his room.
When he returned, the first thing he asked was; "How can we fix this?" Pidge had been on their laptop, searching for remedies.
"I can't find anything on remedies or cures for things with this affect." They responded. Lance let his head drop back on the back of the couch. After a few hours, Hunk went to check on Keith, only to come running back down, wild eyes.
"He's gone!" He said, panicked and out of breath. Lance was the first to jump up.
"What do you mean gone?!" Pidge said, looking up from the screen.
"I mean he's gone, as in not in his room. I don't know where he is!" That's what started the chaos. Everyone started searching, from the kitchen to the control room, from the showers to lion hangers and the swimming pool, but no one found him. Lance was about to leave his room after searching everyone's when he heard a terrifying, blood-curling scream come from the training room. He bolted down there to find Keith backed into a corner by two drones, his shoulder cut open, panicking in the corner. His knees were brought up to his chest and he was sobbing.
"KEITH!!" Lance yelled. "TRAINING SEQUENCE OFF!!! TRAINING SEQUENCE OFF NOW!!!!!" The drones collapsed, leaving a path for Lance to run over to a sobbing Keith. He was trembling horribly and his face was red from crying.
"M-m-mom... d-d-dad-d..." he whispered silently through the tears. He held his head down and continued heart-brokenly sobbing. Lance felt terrible.
"Come here." He signaled for Keith to hug him, and he did. He let go of his head and threw his arms around Lance's neck and sobbed, begging for his parents. Lance had never seen him so shaken up before. Him being so young helped, but it was still his Keith, and he felt terrible. He rubbed the sobbing kid's back and held the back of his hair down soothingly.
"Shhhh, it's okay, Keith. It's okay." He whispered softly. Keith continued sobbing, burying his head into Lance's chest. Lance continued petting his hair and rubbing his back, trying to get him to calm down. He thought of an idea that worked for his younger siblings back on Earth.
"Don't you worry, Don't you worry, Child," he started signing soothingly. "See, heaven's got a plan for you. Don't you worry, don't you worry, now, yeah. Don't you worry, don't you worry, Child. See, heaven's got a plan for you. Don't you worry, don't you worry, now, yeah..." his voice faded out as Keith started calming down.
Good, Lance thought to himself. He smiled and hugged Keith tighter.
"Don't worry. I got you." He said. "I got you."
