Valadhiel, in her winged Elvish form, stood on the bank of Lothlorien near boats of Elven craft with the rest of the fellowship. Galadriel and Celeborn stood before them, with gifts for them, it seemed. She watched the lord and lady of Lorien and listened as they spoke.
Celeborn and Galadriel gave cloaks to all the fellowship, fastening them on each member. "Never before have we clad strangers in the garb of our own people." Celeborn told them. "May these cloaks help shield you from unfriendly eyes."
Valadhiel looked back at her cloak. She had to keep her wings folded in so they wouldn't show from beneath the cloak. Somehow, the cloak seemed large enough to keep her wings hidden even though it was normal sized. Perhaps it was some type of Elven magic? Who could tell.
The Dragoness looked up when Legolas walked over to the boat she sat by with Merry and Pippin and picked something up. "Lembas," he said as he looked at it, then at the Hobbits. "Elvish waybread. One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man."
Valadhiel nodded in agreement with Legolas' statement and, as he walked away, she looked at the Hobbits, who began talking to each other in hushed voices.
"How many did you eat?" Merry asked Pippin.
Pippin looked over at him. "Four."
Valadhiel silently laughed at them before she got up and helped carry some things back to the boat. She as getting bored just sitting around doing nothing, and she needed to occupy her mind for the time being. She couldn't deny the fact that she was a little worried. She knew that, being part dragon, she could easily succumb to its influences. She told herself every day that she wouldn't allow that to happen, but could she really promise herself that she wouldn't?
After a little while, Valadhiel was in a boat, sitting between Legolas and Gimli. She used her wings to help row every now and then. She didn't have to, but she wanted to. The sound and feel of the water was relaxing. As she rowed, she looked down at the brand new bow she held. It was an amazing, remarkable, and beautiful weapon. It looked as if it were made of fire itself, and it seemed to flicker when you moved it. It had dragon scale designs on it, and each arrowhead in the quiver of arrows she'd been given by Galadriel looked much like a dragon's teeth and claws. She looked at Gimli when he began to speak.
"I have taken my worst wound at this parting, having looked my last upon that which is fairest." He said, staring off into space as he spoke. "Henceforth I will call nothing fair unless it be her gift to me."
Legolas glanced at Vala with a slightly amused expression before he looked back at Gimli. "What was her gift?"
"I asked for one hair from her golden head." Gimli replied, then he smiled. "She gave me three."
Valadhiel chuckled silently. Never before had she thought he'd hear him speak of an Elf in that way. She looked around at the scenery as they rowed along and, after a little while, she shape shifted into a small water dragon and leaped into the water.
Legolas looked at her, though she'd been so quick that he could only catch a flash of scales and see the ripples in the water. He chuckled when Valadhiel resurfaced. "Does the water feel nice?"
Valadhiel, noticing they were close to their destination, and knowing that the water here was more shallow, grinned at him. "Find out for yourself!" She said before going underwater and pushing the boat, tipping it.
Legolas's eyes widened in surprise just before he went under, then he resurfaced, catching his breath and shivering. He searched for Vala and, when he found her, he narrowed his eyes at her, though he looked more amused than he did angry.
