Ainsley P.O.V
I let a howl of freedom escape from deep within, followed by Ady as we submerged ourselves deeper into the woods, and leaving behind our old lives. I couldn't help, but feel free. Free from that controlling jerk.
'Are you okay?' I asked Ady through our mind link as we ran as fast as we could. Even though we were pretty far away from alpha James,I still felt the urge to run. I hadn't give in to my wolf for the whole week and I felt. Well she felt like running and stretching the limbs.
'I think so,' She said a little to weak for my liking. 'Can we take a break? I'm getting a little tired and thirsty.' Okay now I'm getting worried. Wolves can run for weeks without getting tired and needing water, and we just started running.
'Okay,' I said softly letting her know I understood. 'There's a river a few trees up ahead from now and a camp ground. Well steal some clothes, wash up, and rest close by in the woods. But as soon as we're there I'm checking up on you. I'm getting worried here. You're never tired and we just started running.'
She nodded her big wolf head vigorously as if too tired to speak her thoughts. So I added 'Adeline are you sure you're okay Hun? We can take a five-minute break right now and then keep going. I'm pretty sure we lost them or more likely they didn't even chase us.' Come to think of it why didn't he chase us, and most importantly why did he have a knowing smirk? It didn't matter now anyway. We were far away and if he didn't chase us it was his stupid ass business. I was tired, annoyed, worried and wasn't in the mood to ponder about his actions anyhow.
'No, I'm okay. I can keep going a little more right now. I don't want to give him any advantage, just in case he's waiting for the right moment to surprise us. Besides we're almost there I can smell the humans and the river.' She said as her eyes started to sparkle with thirst. Which gave me more reason to worry, but I let it go.
As if on cue, a small clearing of land came to view and we started slowing our pace down, until we came to a complete stop behind a distant bush. The smell of food, water and civilization instantly hit us like a bullet to the stomach. I didn't realize I was drooling until I felt drops of saliva fall into my paws. I shook my head trying to snap out of it and turned my gaze toward Ady, only to find her with my same reaction. Hey, don't judge we didn't even eat lunch with the shocking news we got. It was quite unprecedented if you ask me.
I went and softly nudged Ady with my nose. 'Close you're mouth we don't want any fly's going in there. Trust me they're not very tasty.' I said shaking my head as I watched her snap out of planet Ady.
She looked at me shocked trying to make a 'what the fuck' look.Which in her wolf form only made her look like a constipated wolf. Don't ask how I know that.
'And how do you know how a fly tastes? If I may ask.' Even though we were speaking trough the mind link I could still hear the teasing behind her voice and I didn't like it.
'You remember when we took that camping trip with mom, dad, and Ryan?' she nodded. 'Well, when we went to the lake and Ryan started striping... Well, let's just say I had a little uninvited friend invading me. And then that's when I started choking and you came to pat my back.' I said a little uncertain hoping she would understand the situation I was in and not start laughing. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
She didn't laugh right away though. 'You mean, it wasn't you choking on the bottle of water you were drinking?' she asked. She looked ready to burst. But I nodded anyway. The deed was done either way.
