Everyone in the whole school was awoken by a spine-chilling scream. John leapt to his feet, as did James, Sirius and Remus. Peter didn't seem to be in bed. They all ran down the stairs and out onto the moving staircase. Students and Teachers alike were coming out of their chambers, all looking confused and scared.

"The garden! It came from the garden!" Shouted Remus sprinting down the stairs towards the main doors. Everyone followed Remus out into the cool night air. Hagrid was running towards the school looking terrified.

"It's Carl Powers! He's dead! Black Lake! Help!" Hagrid spluttered. John and the others hurried past Hagrid towards the black lake.

When they got there, there was someone already looking at the body! They slowly walked over and to their surprise they recognised the boy looking at the body.

"Hello. I was just examining the body," Sherlock said apparently not bothered by the fact he was sitting over a dead body. Everything was awkwardly silent. It was broken by Professor Dumbledor arriving with most of the school behind him. He looked from Sherlock to John and his friends.

"Step away from the body Mr Holmes," Sherlock stepped away. Mycroft was standing behind Dumbledore, looking down his nose at Sherlock.

"Mr Holmes, I'm not sure what you were doing with that body but there will be punishment and an investigation by the Ministry of Magic,". Sherlock nodded. Madame Pomfrey collected the body on a stretcher and carried it off. The students were sent back to bed and were given the day off work. Everyone should have been happy but they weren't. Sherlock joined John and his friends.

"I found some useful information from the body. His name was Carl Powers. He-"

"Sherlock. No one wants to know about him. He is a friend,"

"He was a friend,"

John sighed. He had just seen the dead body of a friend and Sherlock was being a grammar freak. He hadn't known Carl well but he had sat next to him in potions. He was a very nice boy and wouldn't hurt anyone. He didn't need Sherlock going on about it.

"Go to bed Sherlock. We can talk in the morning," John said to Sherlock. Sherlock didn't say anything as he left to go to the basement.

Morning came fast and John joined James and Sirius for a quiet breakfast. Remus had decided to stay in the common room. Peter was still missing. John was surprised when Sherlock came and joined him. He smiled weakly.

"Good morning. Did you sleep well?" John asked Sherlock. Sherlock smiled.

"I didn't sleep. I went into my mind palace,"

"Your what?" Spluttered John, James and Sirius in unison.

"It's where I go to think,". They all stared at Sherlock as if he was crazy. "Anyway, this is what I found from the body. Carl Powers was a first year, like us. When we found him, he had been dead just over 3 hours. That means he was killed at about 12:10pm. He turned 12 on the 26th September. He was a county champion swimmer. He was wearing his swimming trunks so he was most likely out for a swim in the black lake. He knew well enough that first years are not allowed to swim in the black lake without supervision. Also, he wasn't wearing his gold chain necklace that he always wears. The current couldn't possibly have pulled it off. The current also couldn't have pulled off his flippers which were also missing,"

"Wow! You got all that from just one dead body?" Said Sirius in disbelief.

"Trollshit! He searched him up!" Sneered James.

"No! He didn't! He knew all about me on the train!" Shouted John gaining a few weird looks from people "one thing, Sherlock, how do you know he was wearing flippers?"

"Easy! There were blue marks around the ankle from where the flippers had been very tight. Rigour Mortis had set in while he was still wearing the flippers. They were removed after death,"

"So, someone killed him,"

"Yeah! I think we all know who killed him!" Stated Sirius looking directly at Sherlock. Sherlock made some excuse about needing to go to the library to talk to someone and left. John turned to James and Sirius.

"He's a complete freak!" Said James "How can anyone know all that stuff about Carl?"

"He was also already at the body when we arrived. He must have done something to Carl, if not killed him," Sirius nodded in agreement.

"I refuse to believe that Sherlock is responsible!" John shouted "If you want me I'll be doing homework in the library!"

With that John strode out of the great hall. He was angry with his friends for thinking Sherlock killed Carl. They didn't know Sherlock as well as he did. Sherlock was going to get in trouble and he could even be expelled. His talent would be wasted because of this. John felt the anger begin it die down inside him. He would go and talk to Sherlock about his investigation.
