Chapter 5

John was striding down one of the many corridors of Hogwarts when somebody grabbed his elbow and pulled him into a hidden alcove. He turned and lifted his hand to punch. Sherlock flinched and let go of John's elbow.
"Sorry! I thought you were someone else." John said blushing "Uh, Sherlock, I've been meaning to talk to you about this morning,"
"I've been looking into the swab I got from Carl's foot. It's a ch-"
"Sherlock! My friends didn't mean what they said, they are just upset"
"Lovely. Now as I was saying I found traces o-"
"SHERLOCK! COULD YOU JUST LISTEN FOR 1 BLOODY MINUTE!" John bellowed. Sherlock tilted his head to one side but didn't say anything. John sighed.
"I was just trying to say that my friends didn't mean what they said but it seems that you don't care," Sherlock nodded and said:
"I found traces of Aconitum napellus on the deceased feet. It's a poison which is very dangerous. If you touch the Aconitum napellus plant for too long, you are instantly poisoned. The poison paralyses the body. Carl wasn't drowned directly. His muscles stopped working while he was swimming and he drowned. The killer then took the flippers which were coated with the poison and also his necklace. I still am looking for a reason for taking his necklace,"
"Wow! Bloody brilliant!" John smiled. Sherlock fought the blush that threatened to rise in his cheeks. Sherlock, who was very embarrassed, said goodbye and left John in the alcove.
Later that night, John arrived back into the common room and told his friends about Sherlock's discovery.
"How can he know so much?" Said Remus frowning.
"It's obvious really! He did it himself! How else could he know all of the little details?" James sneered "you'd be crazy to listen to him John,"
"Yeah! I'd keep away from him," stated Sirius.
"Have any of you guys seen Peter? He hasn't been here all day!" Said Remus but John ignored him.
"I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK! HE IS MY FRIEND AND HE WOULDN'T HURT ANYONE!" John shouted before turning in his heel and leaving the common room. Remus sighed:
"Way to go guys. That was really sensitive," he said sarcastically. James and Sirius just looked at Remus.
"Go on! Follow him and tell him he's right. Go and make him feel better like you always do," sneered Sirius. Remus stood.
"I can see that's what you expect me to do. You know, you guys can be really mean,"
James and Sirius watched Remus walk out. Silence settled over them. Lily broke it.
"You know, you could have been a little kinder,"
James ignored her and left in a strop. Sirius sighed. Things weren't looking good.
