In the morning, John was very tired. Things within the Marauders weren't looking good. Sirius was keeping away from John, where as James was ignoring John completely. Remus was angry with both Sirius and James and Peter was still missing. John noticed Sherlock sitting on his own.

"I am gonna go and sit with Sherlock, if you wanna come," he said to Remus. Remus seemed to think hard about it before deciding he would join John. They made their way over to the far end of the Slytherin table. Sherlock was reading as usual.

"What are you reading?" Remus asked tilting his head to one side. Sherlock looked up.

"'Effective and untraceable Poisons' by Rory Gildan," Sherlock stated. John grabbed a slice of toast and began spreading liberal amounts of Strawberry jam on it.

"I hope your not intending to poison anyone," said John taking a huge bite out of the toast.

"Hm. I made a nice batch of belladonna potion but I had no use for it so I dumped it into the strawberry jam,"

John stopped eating and stared at Sherlock.

"Your kidding. Not this strawberry jam!"

"The one and the same," said Sherlock nodding sadly. John stared and began to spit out as much toast as possible. Remus burst out laughing and Sherlock grinned at John.

"You seriously believed him!" Laughed Remus clutching his stomach. John blushed violently.

"Piss off!" He said smiling. Various Slytherins were casting disdainful looks at them and for the first time John noticed all of the sneers behind Sherlock's back. Sherlock and Remus began talking about books and lessons and other things which didn't interest John. He excused himself and left for the common room.

Before he reached the common room he was cornered by Sally Donovan and Philip Anderson. He remembered them from the sorting ceremony.

"John. Let me give you a piece of advice: keep away from Sherlock Holmes. I've known him for some time. He's a psychopath. He solves crimes to stop himself getting bored. But will he stop there? No, one day he will be standing over a body and he will be the one who put it there,"

Anderson had been nodding all through the speech but didn't say anything. John frowned.

"I think I will decide who will be my friend and who won't," John said angrily but politely.

It was later during Charms class that John noticed the leather bound journal sticking out of Sherlock's bag. He had completely forgotten all about it and made a bee-line for Sherlock when the lesson ended.

"This journal is very interesting. It has told me a lot," Sherlock said before John could even ask. There was a pause.

"Well...What does it say?" John asked. Sherlock's mouth twitched with a smile.

"He said he was told to go swimming by a girl named Johanna Marstone. There is some other interesting facts but nothing that will really help with the case. We need to talk to Johanna,"

"Is she a Hufflepuff too?"

"Yes,". John paused.

"I spoke to a friend of yours earlier, or she spoke to me. She told me to stay away from you,"

"Sally Donovan and I have never got on,"

"I don't believe her". Sherlock smiled smugly at this remark. He turned to go.

"Meet me at lunch and we can find Johanna, goodbye!". John followed him out the door and went to Care of Magical Creatures. He ran down the garden path to Hagrid's hut and joined the rest of his class. He had most classes with Hufflepuff. Suddenly a loud scream echoed out of the trees. Everyone spun around as a girl from Hufflepuff ran out of the forest.

"Thomas! Thomas is dead! Help!" She screamed. John moved towards her.

"It's ok. Take me to the body,". She lead him into the woods where a boy was lying on the floor. He had a crossbow bolt sticking out if the small of his back. John could hear Hagrid telling the other students to calm down. He looked at the girl.

"What's your name?" He asked. She was visibly shaking.

"Johanna. J-Johanna Ma-arstone,"
