Chapter 3
-Bike Ride-
Nichole's POV:
I stepped outside the sand room and noticed the sun had completely vanished over the horizon and the night sky was beginning to set in. The cricket's chirping, a low hum, filled the humid air. I walked across the extensive driveway and opened up the beige shed door, where eight bicycles rested.
I picked up the matte blue bicycle with a black metal basket hanging off the silver handle-bars and Brody decided on the silver cruiser with black flames. We slowly rolled the bikes out of the shed, attempting to not hit the multiple cars in the drive way. We both kicked up our kick-stands and started biking down the long concrete road.
Nash's POV:
I was lounging on the couch watching 'Modern Family' with Hayes, when I looked down at my phone and noticed it was already 8:26 and I was meeting Brody in 4 minutes. Shit! I slipped on my red Vans and started to walk toward the garage door. Hayes turned around, resting his criss-crossed arms on the top of the couch and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I'm getting ice cream with Brody, I'll be back in 20"
"Okay, say "Hi" to him for me." Hayes said with a slight smile. He then slid back on the couch. Why does he always want to be friends with my friends? He's so annoying.
I walked through the garage door and found my black bike in the corner underneath Hayes's. I yanked it out and started riding down my paved driveway.
Nichole's POV:
After riding for about four minutes, we pulled into the small Mooresville Parlor parking lot. We dropped our bikes on a small patch of long grass off to the side and walked through the glass doors, of the ice cream parlor. I walked up to the smooth marble counter.
"What can I get for you?" The ice cream man said with a fake smile.
"Can I get..." I hesitated looking down at all the different flavors, I was craving cookies and cream. "I'll have one scoop of cookies and cream please." I asked politely and smiled back at the man. He got out his frosty metal scooper and hovered over the cones and bowls.
"Oh, cone or bowl?" I looked up. "Oh hmm.. bowl please." He nodded and scooped out my portion and plopped it in the small pink bowl. No extra toppings today, thinking skinny. I mentally hi-fived myself as the ice cream man handed me my dessert.
"Thank you." I said, smiling back at the young man.
I picked up the pink plastic spoon and slowly took my first bite; savoring the Oreo flavor. It's been awhile since I've had ice cream, because my family is into being super healthy, so ice cream is a treat every so often.
Brody stepped up to the marble counter and ordered as well.
"And can I please get a double scoop of mint chip?" Brody asked. The man nodded, and repeated the same thing.
"Okay so your total is $9.50." The man said looking up from the cash register.
I pulled my $10 out of my back pocket, but Brody beat me to it.
"Ugh Brody, let me pay for it please." I said with puppy dog eyes. I tried to push away his arm, but he wouldn't budge. He handed the ice cream man the money.
"Nope." He said with a smirk. We waited for our change when the glass door opened behind us, with a ding from the small bell in the corner.
"BRODY!!" A loud voice said behind us. Brody turned around to face him and gave him one of those bro hugs. Once I was handed the change I turned around too, to face Brody's friend. He stared at me confused for a second, but Brody cut him out of his daze.
