Avi:
Everything in the castle looks different in the dark. The shadows leap with every step I take, and the people in the portraits mumble horrors into their sleep. Suits of armour clank and, when I turn to look at them, they're in an entirely different spot or position to what they were. I clutch the piece of paper which is my lifeline closer to my chest. It details the reasoning for me being out at night. I hoist my lantern a bit higher into the air, even though my arm is already stiff from the weight. It was a real challenge trying to sneak out of the Common Room without waking Scott or Todrick or anyone else. Numerous times I'm sure the former jostled in his sleep, about to be awakened. I slipped by without incident, however. In no time, I'm knocking on Hagrid's door. He answers, his massive silhouette framed by the dying fire.
"Avi, made it a'ight?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good lad." He says, clapping me on the shoulder. I nearly collapse under the weight of his dustbin hands.
"Off we go then." He pushes past me, and we start off into the Forbidden Forrest. What we're doing isn't illegal, we've got approval from the Ministry of course, but it still feels as though we're breaking a dozen laws.
Slowly, the trunks become thicker, and what little light the stars above shone upon us shrinks away behind a thicket of tree leaves.
"Almos' there."
I nod, not trusting myself to speak with the lump in my throat. Twenty minutes fade away before we finally reach an clearing. The otherwise stout trees disappear in a perfect circle, in which the middle is set moderately alight by a dying fire.
"I check'd on it tis mornin'."
I walk up to the coal and peer into it's depths. A twinkling white dome gleams in the centre, golden flecks disarraying in irregular patterns. Cracks break the perfect egg, gradually growing bigger with every passing minute. Half an hour passes before I can see the dragon. It emerges somewhat like a newborn child: wrinkly and whining. It has pearly scales, that shimmer like silver, and amber like eyes that glisten like the gem itself. It gives a squawk and crawls up my arm, small claws poking holes into my shirt. It sits perched on my shoulder and looks into my eyes, before cradling it's head in the crook of my neck.
"It's a girl. An Antipodean Opaleye." Says Hagrid behind me, before nosily blowing his nose.
I think back to my Study of Ancient Runes class in Year 4, when we were learning about the Latin language. What did my Professor say about they call the big star in the sky, otherwise known as the sun? Then it hits me.
"Her name's Stella."

Kirstie (The Next Day, Monday):
An excited murmur runs through my first class for the day, Defense Against the Dark Arts.
"What's up?" I say, sliding into a seat next to one of my friends, Christina.
"We're learning how to cast a Patronous today!" She begins excitedly.
I slap her arm. "Are you joking?"
"Firstly, ow. Secondly, nut-uh honey. What animal do you think yours is going to be?"
"I have no idea, probably some lame as creature like an earthworm."
She laughs. "Don't be so hard on yourself."
