Since the battle with the demons, Andrew's mind had been having a battle of its own. He still couldn't fully wrap his head around the fact that he had killed so many demons on his own. Even though Andrew knew that they weren't human and it was the right thing to do, it was only when it was all over that his actions really hit him.Julia, sensing something was wrong, went over to Andrew and sat down at the kitchen counter with him. "Andrew, what's wrong? Do your wounds still hurt?" Julia asked, her eyebrows furrowed in concern.
Andrew looked up, slowly registered his mom's question and then quickly shook his head. "No, not at all. I wasn't wounded very badly and whatever wounds I had, healed pretty quickly. So I'm fine mom."
Noelle had mentioned before that because of his power, he would also heal faster which had initially surprised Andrew since it had never happened before but Noelle cleared that up by saying it was another thing that was unlocked when she came. Julia knew all this but she hadn't known what else to ask since there was something obviously bothering her son, something he didn't want to talk about. "You know you can tell me anything right?"
Andrew nodded and slowly rubbed his hand across the back of his neck, sighing loudly. "The truth is, I feel weird. Ever since the fight, all I can think about is the image of me slicing a demon's neck or stabbing a demon in the heart. I know that I don't feel bad about doing it since it was necessary. But it just feels odd, you know?"
Julia nodded in understanding, slightly cringing at the slicing of the neck part. "That's completely understandable Andrew. You're bound to feel odd when you're doing something you don't normally do. It's simple psychology. Just know that you did it for the right reasons, okay? You're doing it for the good of the world, as hard to believe as that sounds."
"You're right mom, you're right. It's okay feeling weird about this, if I didn't feel weird about it then something would be wrong with me, right?" Andrew laughed slightly and then took a deep breath. "I'm fine now. Thanks mom."
Hearing his mom say the words out loud made it feel more real and true for Andrew. It actually did make him feel better, surprisingly.
Julia eyed her son for a minute before breaking out into a wide smile. "Okay let's talk about something else, shall we? We haven't had a non-war type conversation in a while."
"You're right, what do you want to talk about?" Andrew asked, feeling lighter than he did before.
"How about Noelle?" Julia smirked at the slight blush that immediately appeared on her son's face at the mention of Noelle.
"What about Noelle?" Andrew asked, trying to appear nonchalant.
"Well, you've both been spending quite a lot of time together, don't you think? Hasn't anything happened between you two? I find it hard to believe that all you do is practise fighting together!"
"Of course nothing has happened mom, she's an angel!" Andrew said softly.
"So what? She used to be a human, didn't she? Plus, love doesn't care about that kind of stuff!" Andrew opened his mouth to protest but Julia cut him off by saying, "you know it's okay if you like her, she's a very sweet girl so I can't really blame you."
Andrew looked down and shrugged slightly. "I don't know if I like her like that but she is pretty cool, I have to admit. You should see her fight as well mom, she's amazing!"
"I'm sure she is, honey. She did teach you after all!" Julia smiled brightly and leaned over to ruffle his dark brown hair.
"Good morning!" Noelle said as she entered the room, stopping Andrew from replying to Julia. Slowly walking towards them, she lifted her hands to her face and let out a soft yawn.
