Hermione had been pestering the boys to begin their revision for their O.W.L.s, so Ron made his way to the library that Saturday morning to study. As he entered he noticed Electra sat at a desk, reading a textbook. He wasn't too shocked, she seemed to live with her nose in a book. As he appoached her he noticed that she seemed to muttering some kind of incantation.
"Hey," Ron approached her table and slid into the opposite seat, she looked up at him her with her big bug eyes. "You studying for the exams?"
"I'm trying to learn Occlumency," she replied with a soft smile, causing Ron to raise an eyebrow. "You said Harry's learning, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's hard to do without someone actually seeing my thoughts but I'm trying my best,"
"You're pretty amazing at magic," he said and she nodded in agreement. When he told her that Harry was having Occlumency lessons, he didn't think she'd take it upon herself to teach herself.
"My mum taught me when I was young, she really made me love magic and strive to achieve better,"
"What else can you do?" he asked in almost a whisper as he was highly intrigued. Although the whole year knew she was the smartest witch in the year, something told him she had some hidden talents.
"Well.." she chuckled nervously as he leaned into the table, his head on his hand. "I can do non-verbal spells, wandless magic...urm...I can apparate. I can perform curses and concoct potions they won't even teach you at Hogwarts, they're far too...dark," she says the last part uneasy.
"Woah, woah... apparate? You're only 15?" he asked.
"Yeah, I taught myself a couple of years ago. I don't do it much, doing magic outside of Hogwarts can be risky but sometimes I manage to do some apparition in the holidays unnoticed," he nodded in awe.
"Can you cast a Patronus?" he asked hopefully. Her eyes lowered as she nibbled her lip.
"No. I've never tried. I figured I would never need to use a charm like that, just hit the enemy with some killer hexes," she smirked, flicking her hair off her shoulder. She saw Ron's face drop, "Calm down, not literally killer! Why, can you cast one?"
"Urm..yeah. I've done it a couple times, only once was a full patronus," he said slowly with an awkward nod, thinking to the DA meetings where it had taken several sessions and Harry's intense teaching until he finally managed to produce anything from his wand.
"That's so cool," Electra replied, fascinated by Ron's ability. "How are you learning this stuff? I should probably work on charms like that if I want to pass my DADA O.W.L. If only Umbridge was teaching us something useful, huh," she chuckled, Ron stomach turned as he filled with guilt, it was bad enough he had to lie to Electra whenever he left for the DA sessions. But now he was treading in deep water.
"Uh, yeah ha. I'm sure you'll be fine," there was an awkward pause for a while.
"Do you wanna hang out later?" Electra asked him, closing the Occlumency book. She'd missed hanging out with Ron, her suspicions and revision had kept her occupied. "Like outside in our usual spot?"
"Yeah alright, I'll meet you there after lunch?" she nodded and gathered her books, walking towards the library door. She stopped and looked back at Ron with a smile, then left.
Ron made his way to the edge of the lake straight after lunch, as he approached he saw that Electra was already there. She had a black case with needles and she appeared to be poking them through her ears.
"What are you doing?" he asked, sitting down next to her.
"Piercing my ear," she winced as the needle crunched through her upper ear. Ron examined her ears, noticing she probably had at least 5 piercings in each one. She wore a mixture of hoops and studs, all of them varying skulls, snakes or plain studs.
