Chapter 19: That Should Be Me

Liam and I were strolling in the snowy garden, then secretly walking pass the teacher's room, then to our canteen. While we were walking, he kept on talking and talking when I kept on reminding him that we're not yet on a break. We're cutting classes. He blabbered about how he missed his old school back home and how he missed his old buddies, wishing they could accompany him to study here. Finally, we're down to the last place and it's the music room. I told him that it was one of my favorite places in the school. The lights were turned off so I switched them on. Liam carefully walked around the music room, examining the musical instruments. The music room is only used on some days, but it's frequently used on special occasions like musical performances and festivals. People never really paid any attention to it, except me. You can say it's rarely used.

"So, how do you like it here?" I asked him while his eyes were fixed on an accoustic guitar. I was standing near the door, keeping watch on whoever comes near this room.

"It's big compared to my previous school and they have this," he nodded. "The music room. I wanna stay here instead."

"You can't. You have to attend classes," I crossed my arms, but he didn't pay any attention to what I've told him. Instead, he picked up the guitar and strummed a few notes which I stopped immediately.

"Whadya do that for?" he asked.

"Aren't you forgetting something? We can't be seen here or else we might get in trouble."

"Right. Right. Sorry," he said. "But at least hear me play. Just this time. Okay?"

I pouted then nodded. He continued strumming and plucking from where he had left of. The melody was catching and has a beat to it. To make things a little livelier, I started tapping to the rhythm. Our heads nodded at the same time to the rhythm. When he ended, he took my hand and told me, "Meet me at the back of the school. I've got something to tell you."

After he said that, the bell rang and we heard footsteps heading our way. He grabbed me by my shoulders and we were hiding between the swung door and the wall. Our bodies are mushed together and I can feel his breath in my hair. This is so awkward. After we heard less footsteps, I started to back away from him but he just held me.

"Nobody's around anymore. You can let go of me now, Liam," I shrugged my shoulders.

"Aww, it's better like this. Don't you think?" he replied with a smirk on his face. After two seconds, he spoke up, "I was just joking." He released me and offered me to go with him but I told him I'd go meet my friends.

I was standing on the first few steps of the school's garden when I saw a figure hiding in the snowy bushes. It was moving towards me, skipping from bushes to bushes, knocking off the snow that had once been there. Looking around, no one's near me so I got closer to it. It was hiding on the bush I'm standing across at. There was a twig lying on the snow and I picked it up. I poked the thing behind the bush when it responded.

"Ow, watch where you're poking that!" the familiar voice shouted.

"Jacob?" I asked, I was half shocked and half happy. "What are yo—How'd you get in here?"

"I said, climbing is my thing. I climbed through the fences. I guess curiosity killed the cat," he shrugged in front of me while rubbing his nose as he sat beside me on the snow. Dirt and snow covered his black outfit. He was in his disguise right now. Same fake blonde hair with hat and sunglasses. "So this is your school. Cool enough, mine's bigger though!" He looked up at me and gave me his mischievous smile that I love.

"I wanted to tour you around but we don't have much time left," I sat beside him too.

"Slowpoke!" he poked my forehead gently. "Done! While finding you, I had a chance of taking a tour around your school. Where were you anyway?"

Rubbing my forehead, I told him truthfully, "Cutting classes with a new student."

  He raised his eyebrow.

"Remember the guy who told me my ice skating skills were great? Guess what, he's the new student."

"Oh that weirdo...he even complimented your poor skills in ice skating. Weird guy,"

"Pssh! You're weird! You don't even know how to ice skate til now."

"Oh shut up," he laughed and tickled me. He knew my weaknesses when it comes to tickling. Tears of joy...no, agony came falling down my cheeks. It was too much. I was laughing so hard my teeth could fall of. When I told him to stop, he stopped. I was pretty sure my cheeks were so red. I didn't know if it's because of him tickling me so hard that at the same time it hurts and ticklish or it's because I'm happy that he's here with me. This was ten thousand better than spending time with Liam.

I led him to the steps as he let me lay on his shoulder. When I laid on it, it was freezing cold and I quickly leaned away from it. It tempted me to ask him how long did he stay outside. "Were you outside the whole day, looking for me?"

He didn't answer at first but he said, "Nope. I...ah...went inside your school gym."

  "Liar," I said.

"As if you could tell I'm lying.I'm telling the truth."

"Truth huh, well! I've got bad news for you, boy, we don't have an indoor gym in our school," I raised my eyebrow. "I'll go get you some hot cocoa. Wait here. I'll be right back!" When I stood up, he pulled my arm hard enough to let me fall on his lap.

"It's ok. It's worth the wait." He hugged me. "This is better."

Unconsciously, I smiled and blushed then I told him, "Jacob, later after school, please come with me at the back of the school? Please?"

"Heck no! I'd go to the gym next. If it's about cleaning duties, count me out,"

I got up from his lap and looked at him in the eyes. "Please? It's not that. Liam will tell me something later and I'm afraid what's he gonna say. Come with me."

  ~Jacob's Part~

Her irresistible eyes are melting my heart on this cold winter weather. She has no idea that this is my weakness when it comes to her. "Well, if you put it that way, then I'll come with you."

"Thanks," she hugged my stomach so fast because of the bell. Screw that stinkin' bell. She got up and told me if I need a hiding place, she told me it's better to hide in the music room. Sam led me there and bid goodbye to me. I watched her as she walked slowly towards the hall making sure she gets there safely. That's when my cheeks grew hot and angry. A guy appeared in front of her as he escorted her down the hallway. I already recognized him. Liam. That should've been me.
