Chapter 4: Keep Calm & Don't Loose Your Cool!
I rode the bike my parents gave me when I was still ten years old and took off for school. While I was on my way to school, I stopped by on an ice cream seller and bought an ice cream for myself even though winter is coming. Not a moment later, I've arrived my school. Parking my bike, I heard giggling voices behind my back. And I knew it was them. My best friends, Katie and Bethany.
"Good morning, Sam!" they chorused like kinder students.
"Good morning, you two!" I said happily. They accompany me through my locker. Their lockers are also located just across mine so while I was getting my books, they also get theirs. We were already best friends even before my parents died. When Bethany & Katie heard the news that my parents passed away, they asked their parents to help me and they did. That's when our bonds kept growing stronger. By the time I've finished getting all the things I need for class, they were also finished. So we went inside our classroom. We chatted about the theme of our café tomorrow.
"Our manager said it's like we're going to dress up like a princess and we're going to serve our customers in an elegant way," Katie said.
"This is going to be exciting!" Bethany exclaimed. "Don't you think so too, Sammy?"
I nodded happily. "I can't wait to see the dresses Manager made for each of us!"
The teacher went inside and we greeted him altogether. He announced something like a quiz. Katie, Bethany and I looked at each other and sent each other mental messages like, "We have a quiz?!" He gave us few minutes to review and I asked one of my classmates the coverage of the test, and I started cramming. The test was given by the time I finished one and a half page of a chapter.
"Shoot!" I said in my head. "I'm going to get another failing grade."
Three minutes have passed, I'm still staring blankly at my paper but then I started to analyze them one by one. By doing that, maybe I could ace this Chemistry test. Half an hour has gone and we passed our papers and we were dismissed to the next class. Then another hour. Then next class then another hour. Then LUNCH! We all scrammed to our usual lunch place which is on our roof.
"Have you heard of the news last night?" Katie asked the both of us. I was eating my rice cake while listening to her, and Bethany was eating her cupcake. "Jacob Hunter escaped from his hotel! He could be hiding in some houses near the hotel!"
I choked on my rice cake.
"Oh my gosh, Sam! What's gotten into you?" Bethany handed me her handkerchief. I wiped my mouth with it.
"Sorry, just choked on my uh..rice cake," I laughed sheepishly. "Sorry."
"I wish I'm lucky enough to have him stay in my house, but Dad won't surely allow it." Katie said sadly.
"Me too, my parents definitely don't want trouble around," Bethany said.
"Yeah," I just said.
"You're very lucky, because there might be a chance he'll stay in your house since yours is just few blocks away from the hotel and you live alone on an apartment!" Katie exclaimed.
I just smile.
As time passed by, dismissal came and I parted with my friends. I parked my bike and went inside my house to see it was a total mess. Cans of soda were scattered. Few of my chips were half-eaten and were on the floor. Jacob wasn't anywhere around. I climbed up the stairs and went straight to my room. He was lying on my bed. I must have woke up him up because he rubbed his eyes from sleep.
"Oh, you're home?" he said groggily. "Did you keep your mouth close about this?"
"I-I did, but until when can I keep this a secret?" I asked.
"I dunno," he shrugged his shoulders. "Just please don't tell anyone."
I just crossed my arms in front of him.
He suddenly took hold of my arm and pulled me to him. So now I'm lying beside him. In my own room. In my own bed. "Promise me that? Just stay calm and don't panic when my name's being mentioned. Ok?" he whispered at my ear. It was tickling my ears. I was caught off guard when he suddenly nibbled my ear.
I blushed immediately and panicked inside and out. My heart was jumping up and down. I was feeling shy and embarrassed towards him. "Ok ok ok! B-but w-what was that for?! I-I'll go prepare dinner. Get up!" I got up from my bed.
"You know what," he said mischievously. "You're funny." Then he smiled and put his arms above his eyes.
"Sh-shut up!" I left him.
