Chapter 11: Birthday Gifts I Received From...Him
Katie bumped my hip using hers, signaling me to entertain him. As I walk slowly towards him, my heart is fluttering. I don't know why but it is, and I can't help but to be happy to see him.
"Hi," he said, lowering down his shades. His brown hazel-nut eyes reflecting mine.
"Hi, welcome!" I said and smiled. "Follow me!" He followed me as I lead him to his table.
"Hey, psst! Bird brain!" he whispered to me which made me irritated and happy. He's back!
"Yes? King Pervert?" I whispered back and I caught him with a confused look. "What?"
"I want a table for two," he fought.
"What? But you're alone!"
"Someone would be joining me later,"
"Who?"
"None of your business, just take me there."
I frowned and took him to a table with two chairs and left him because a customer made me take his order. Who could be joining him? I felt my heart ache.
~Jacob's Part~
Why did she smile when she said the words, "Yes? King Pervert?" at me? Crazy girl! I've gotta work up a plan to surprise her tonight. But what? Oh I've got it, since she's not smart enough. Hehehehe! Oh no, I think I've had an my evil look on my face because Sam saw me and laughed at me. This is great! I've just embarrassed myself to her. Tsk.
~Sam's Part~
I've seen his evil look which made me laughed as I took the order of the customer. I also saw him blushed. This is the first time I've seen him do it. Anyway, I gave his order to the chef when Jacob called me. I asked him what does he want? And guess what, he told me to sit with him...again. I can NOT earn money this time. What does he want? I'm freaking out. Then, I saw Manager. She saw me too and went to me. "Manager, help me!" I whispered to her.
"Oohh," she looked at Jacob with his poker face on. "I get ya!" She winked at me. When she turned around to face the other side, she suddenly shouted, "HEY! EVERYBODY! GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE! GET OUT! THE SHOP IS NOW CLOSED!" Everybody was startled and ran out the shop like a flash of lightning. "EXCEPT YOU, MISTER!" She pointed at Jacob which kind of startled him. She winked at me and went to the employees room with the my other co-workers.
"I'm so sorry," I said sheepishly. "You should probably head home too."
"No," he said firmly. "I'll stay."
My eyebrows went up a little when he said that. I was blushing. Katie and Bethany brought out the Chef's Choice foods to our table. Lily (co-worker) even lit up a candle between us. I told them to stop it but they insisted. We ate silently but we heard low giggles in our employees room. I can't help but to feel nervous.
"Well, this is nice. Don't you think?" he asked me.
"Uh sure I guess," I said shyly. My heart was beating so fast. If only he knew today was my—
"Happy birthday Sam," he suddenly said accompanied by a small rectangular box in his hand.
I can't speak. I was too shocked and happy. How did he know?
He stood up as he opened my gift and held out a necklace as he put it around my neck. I examined the necklace. The pendant is an infinity sign. What does this even mean for the both of us?
"Th-thank you. How'd you know today's my birthday?" I finally have the nerve to ask him.
"While I was in your room, I saw your calendar. Sorry," he adjusted his hat lower. "By the way, don't get the wrong idea. That necklace just symbolizes that whatever happens our deal will never come off."
Oh, so that's why. "Tsk, I knew it. Something this beautiful would have a catch." I shook my head and drank my strawberry milk shake.
"Really? You think it's beautiful?" he focused his gaze on me as he removed his sunglasses.
"Y-yeah, it is," I told him truthfully. I took my last sip of strawberry milk shake. "So, you're finish? It's late and I wanna rest."
"Yeah, I'm done. Don't worry I'll pay,"
"You should," I stuck my tongue out to him. I left the table when he got my hand.
'"Where ya goin?"
Ï'm going to change," I laughed. "Don't worry, I'll come back for you."
"You better!" he crossed his legs and waited. I changed really quick while the girls eyed me dreamily. They kept on teasing me to date him on my birthday. I just rolled my eyes at them mischievously. Finally, I joined Jacob to our door and I waved goodbye to my co-workers as they clean up the shop. I was feeling kind of guilty not helping them but they said it's their birthday gift to me. They're all so nice. I love them so much.
Outside was cold enough to make my breath come out as smoke. Snowflakes were touching my face and I liked it. Winter is my favorite season maybe it's because I always feel Christmas in the air. I was rubbing both of my arms to keep me warm because my blazer wasn't enough to keep me warm. Jacob saw me doing it and removed his jacket and let me wear it without hesitation. What also surprised me is when he offered me a piggy back ride home. He said it's the least thing he could do for me on my birthday. "C'mon Sam, hop on!"
I smiled and hopped on. "Thanks Jacob." were the last words I said to him when I fell asleep on his back on the way home.
~Jacob's Part~
Sam is on my back. She's really cold and I had to keep her warm by this kind of method. This is part of my birthday gift for her and it's because I wanted to do it. I don't know why I suddenly became like this and I really care about her. Yeah she's mean and cranky, but she's cute in a way. I think I've realized my true feelings on her birthday. I like her. I love Sam. "Happy birthday Sam, and...I like you." I whispered to her as she snored on my back.
