Chapter 7: Poseidon and Blue

Reef's P.O.V.

I was awoken by a lot of shaking. I grumbled.

"What the heck do you want?" I whined. I opened my eyes and saw Blue shaking my awake.

"Oh hey Blue." I said. Blue looked sad.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Hestia stopped by and told me that Poseidon is sick. Really sick." Blue told me. I gasped. Hestia stopped by and didn't bother to say hi! But, Poseidon is sick?

"What does that mean for the pod?" I asked. Blue looked at the water.

"I have to leave." Blue said. I looked at him.

"What?" I asked.

"I have to leave." Blue said. I felt tears coming.

"Why?" I asked.

"I need to take care of Poseidon." Blue answered.

"When are you leaving?" I asked while sniffling.

"Tomorrow." I started to cry. He hugged me.

"I'm sorry Reef." I just continued to cry. My best friend is leaving me.

The next day came too quickly. We were meeting with Kahuna and Riley at the juice bar. We walked in and saw Bruce was in there too.

"Hey." I said to them.

"When are you leaving Blue?" Kahuna asked.

"Evening." Blue said while looking at the ground. I left the juice bar so I can take a walk to calm me down. I looked at the ocean. Blue would be going home, while Kahuna and I have to stay here. I sighed. I decided to take a swim. I leaped into the water. I looked at the coral reef beds and saw little fish living among them. I swam to Mako. When I surfaced, I saw another merman there. He turned around.

"Hi." Mysterious merman said.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Red." He said. Then he dived under and swam off. Ok that was weird. Wait a tail flipping second, did he say that his name was Red? Yes, ok now it is starting to make sense. That was one of Riley's old friends. Wait..........

"RILEY!!!!!!!" I shouted and then swam under to find him.

By the time I got to the juice bar, I saw the guys sitting there quietly. Blue had already left. I was too slow. I sighed and sat down in an empty chair. Riley walked up to me. He pulled out another chair and sat beside me.

"Hey Riley." I said all gloomy.

"Blue left." Riley told me.

"I know. I didn't even get to say goodbye to him." I said. Riley started to shovel around in his pocket.

"Blue told me to give this to you. Grrr." Riley said while getting up trying to get my present out of his pocket.

"Dude, it's okay. I don't need it and stop before you hurt yourself." I said to him. He shook his head.

"I have it, but I can't get it out of my pocket. Grr! Argh! Where the heck is it?!" Riley said. I sighed and waited for him to get it out of his pocket.

"FOUND IT!!!" Riley shouted. I rolled my eyes. Then he handed me a box wrapped up from things from Mako. I saw a note it said:

Dear Reef,

By the time you get this note, I am already gone. I am sorry that I had to leave. But I promise to come back one day when Poseidon gets better. Hestia should be stopping by often to check up on you. I wrapped up your present in various things that you like. I hope you like it. Reef, I didn't want to leave but I can't leave my family either. You have Riley and Kahuna with you. Ugh! This is so depressing! Why am I so good at being depressing?! Anyway, I'll come back one day. I hope you can join the pod again along with Kahuna. Still, I hope you enjoy the gift. It took me a long time to make. You better like it or I'll hunt to the ends of the Earth.

With Love,

Blue :)

Wow. I wonder what it is. I opened my gift and I gasped. It was a GUY necklace. I can't stress that enough. Yes, merman wear necklaces. They are NOT like girly silver necklaces. It was a brown string with a blue stone that the necklace is holding. Only few merman wear these. The stones hold great power. I knew Poseidon has one. The older ones wear them. I can't believe Blue made this. Agh!

"Smack me with a Kansas City pickle!" I said while hitting the side of my head. How stupid could I be?! Riley gave me a strange stare.

"What does that even mean?" he asked. He won't get it. It is American. Ok, I over heard it from land people and I decided to use it. That was when I was still near California.

"Doesn't matter. I remember Blue wears one of these." I told him. He looked at the necklace with awe. I put it on. This is the last thing to remember of my first best friend, Blue.
