Chapter 8: The Trident

Reef's P.O.V.

It has been two days since Blue left. I am also bored out of my mind. I looked around. I saw Riley and Kahuna were still asleep. I sighed. I miss Blue. I feel puny compare to these two. Riley is in his six feet, along with Kahuna. They are also the older ones. I sighed and picked up my comb. I brushed my blonde stubborn hair. I saw someone surface. I looked to see who it was. I saw the elusive Red. He surfaced. He also has blonde hair. Well it's more on the brown side. I looked at him. He saw me.

"Hi." Red said to me while waving. I waved back. He held out his hand.

"My name is Red." he said. I noticed he had a different accent. He wasn't from Australian waters.

"Hey Red, where are you from?" I asked.

"I'm from the Mediterranean Sea. Well mostly the Aegean Sea near the Balkan Peninsula." he answered. I looked at him confused.

"Near Greece." he added.

"Ohhh." I said. He rolled his eyes.

"I noticed that you have an American accent yet you are in Australia." Red told me.

"Yeah, my pod was in the Pacific Ocean near California. I was born near a coral reef bed there. That is how I got my name." I said to him. He raised his eyebrow.

"So your name is Reef?" he asked. I nodded.

"Hey Red, do you know Riley?" I asked. He nodded. I saw he doesn't have a moon ring. He looked at my moon ring.

"You passed merman school?" Red asked. I shook my head.

"Then how did you get your moon ring?" He asked. I sighed.

"I found it in the ocean." I said.

"So, why are you doing here?" I asked. He looked back at Kahuna and Riley, who were still sleeping.

"I like to visit Mako sometimes." Red said. I put my brush, comb thing back.

"Do you want a tour of Mako island?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders. We both dove under and swam toward the ocean.

Once we surfaced, I saw we were a lot of feet away from the shore. I started to swim toward shore. Red looked at me with wide eyes.

"Reef what are you doing?" Red asked me.

"What does it look like I'm doing? I am going to the shore." I said.

"But isn't that forbidden?" he asked while swimming towards me.

"I don't know, but I'm out casted so that doesn't really matter." I said. He looked at me.

"You're out casted? How?" Red asked.

"Um, well I'll tell you the story." I said. Then I explained everything that happened over the past month.

"So, you are trying to fix it?" Red asked while crawling in sand with me.

"Yeah." I said. I crawled some more until we reached a rock.

"So, now what?" he asked. I started to heat my tail. He watched in amazement. Then I had legs, along with clothes. I stood up. Red looked at me.

"How can you do that?! That was awesome! But how did you get legs?!" he asked. I took off my moon ring and showed it to him. He facepalmed.

"I should've known." Red mumbled. I chuckled.

"But how am I going to tour the island? Unlike you, I don't have legs." Red asked. I grinned like a chesire cat. He gulped. I put the moon ring on the rock.

"Try to use your powers on the moon ring and think of having legs." I said. He used his powers on the moon ring then the moon ring glowed. After the bright flash, Red was standing, high and dry. I didn't even bother to look down. I handed him some spare clothes. He was the same height as me so he would fit into the clothes.

"Here put these on." I said. I turned around so he could change.

"Done." He said.

"Okay, here is the thing about having legs, you have to move like this," I demonstrated walking. "and that's it." I added. He nodded and started to walk. Like all starters, he face first in the sand.

"I fell." Red said. He sat up, and wiped the sand from his face.

"At least the sand is soft unlike like the sidewalk." I told him. He laughed. After he got somewhat of the walking thing down, we started to walk to the forest.

"Since you have legs, and a tail, you have 10 seconds to get dry or find cover. That happens when a drop of water gets on you." I added. He nodded. We continued walk in the forest. We climbed up this little path, and saw a rock wall. I tilted my head. I looked at my moon ring. I came up with an idea. I held up my hand with my moon ring with it. The moon ring started to glow. I saw the rock wall revealed a hidden entrance. Red gasped.

"Red, I want you to go in there and look around." I said. He gave me a questioning look.

"Why me?" Red asked.

"Because I have to keep this thing open." I answered. He sighed and ran inside. I wonder what is in there.

Red's P.O.V.

I ran inside and I saw mostly a cave. Then I saw a trident symbol on the wall. I walked over to it. I remembered why the merman pods were around Mako. They were protecting the Trident. I touched the symbol. Then a pool was on the wall. I jumped in. I swam around. I saw nothing but water. Then I saw the Trident. I swam to it. I looked at it. It was glowing. I tilted my head. It shouldn't be reacting. I touched it.

"OUCH!!! UGH!!! ACK!!!" I was now choking. I swam back to the entrance. I jumped through the pool. I was coughing. I saw the pool close. I ran outside to sweet sunlight.

Reef's P.O.V.

I saw Red run out. I walked to him. I saw the wall close in. I looked at Red's hand. It was burned.

"I'm sorry Red." I said to him. He shook his head.

"It's not your fault. I touched the Trident, and I got burned." Red said. I told him to go back to the beach. Then we both were sitting on rocks looking at the ocean. I saw Kahuna and Riley walking towards us. I saw Red getting up and leaving.

"Where are you going?" I asked. Red pointed to the ocean. I nodded. He jumped in the water. I saw the after splash which showed the bottom part of his tail.

"Was that Red?" Riley asked. I nodded.

"So Reef, what did you do today?" Kahuna asked. I had a lot of explaining to do.
