Chapter 9: Battle

(Some of this chapter is told from Kaya's perspective because reasons)

The sun rose as I slashed at a tree with my squadmates watching. "What's got you all worked up commander?" I hear my second in command Katsuki call out. I turn to him scowling. "We guard this village right!? We are not going to lose to some wandering traveler with nice black hair!" I yelled not thinking before I spoke. "W-wait, what was that last part?" Katsuki asked confused. "Nothing!!" I say turning back to the tree. "Kaya's got a crush! Kaya's got a crush!" My other squadmate Zero chanted. I could feel my cheeks turn a light pink. "You really think your commander would fall for someone she just met!? That's ridiculous!" I fireback stabbing at the tree. "Then explain your rose red cheeks." Zero said laughing a bit. Within an instant my blade was next to his face. "Shut. Up." I say scowling. "Y-yes ma'am." Zero utters looking down.

The day had come for the teams to battle. Nekro leaned against one of the posts on the battle field with his swords sheathed on his back. Tsuyoi stood with his hands in his pockets, his gauntlets hidden under his jacket. Pando stood with a smile spinning his staff. Kaya and her squad finally showed up with a look of determination across each of there faces. Nekro stood up and smirked. "Ready to get your ass handed to You Kaya? Or should I say commander?" Nekro said confidently. "Just call me your demise." Kaya said unsheathing her blade. As she did this her squad showed they're weapons. The blonde one (Katsuki) drew a giant hammer. "Compensating for something?" Nekro said jokingly. The orange haired one (Zero) drew a blue colored sword. "Shiny!" Pando said in awe. Nekro drew his swords and assumed an odd stance. One sword over his back and one sword under his arm. Tsuyoi shrugged and kept his hands in his pockets. Pando spun his staff and ended with it under his arm behind him. Katsuki lunged forward at Tsuyoi probably thinking he was leaving himself open. Tsuyoi ducked under Katsuki's massive swing without removing his hands from his pockets. Katsuki began swinging his hammer rapidly at Tsuyoi but to no avail. "I expected better." Tsuyoi said rolling his eyes and blocking Katsuki's hammer with one foot. "I-impossible!" Katsuki said stumbling back. Tsuyoi leaped into the air and kicked his opponent hammer snapping the handle of the hammer. Katsuki stumbled to the floor and raised his hands. Tsuyoi looked back at Kaya. "This one lacks patients." Tsuyoi said bluntly. Nekro and Pando had taken a couple steps back watching Tsuyoi tear up they're opponents. Kaya scowled. "Take us seriously!!" She yelled as she rushed down Tsuyoi. Nekro, like a blur appeared infront of his brother blocking her attack. Tsuyoi and Nekro fist bumped. "Got your back bro." Nekro said confidently. "THEN WHO HAS YOURS!?" Zero yelled coming from behind Nekro with his blade ready. "Me! Captain Pando Shokaku!" Pando yelled disarming Zero with one fell swoop. "Pando we've talked about this. You're not the captain until we get a boat." Nekro jokingly. "Whatever!" Pando said kicking Zero in the gut. With her teammates out of commission the three brothers point they're weapons at Kaya. "W-what are you guys??" Kaya asked dropping her blade. "We're brothers. There's no bond stronger then ours. Well, other than like super glue. Or lovers." Nekro said sheathing his weapons. Tsuyoi's hands never left his pockets. Pando folded his staff in half and attached it to his belt. Nekro smirked at Kaya who was in awe at what she had just witnessed. "Dinner?"
