I awake the next morning to someone honking their horn. Seriously? Don't they know people are sleeping?

I roll over and look at the clock. Shoot, it was already 7:15. I should be out the door by now. That's when I remember that Remy was picking me up. I jump out of bed and race over to the window. Sure enough Remy's silver car sat in my driveway.

I turn away from the window and frantically get ready. A pair of jeans that may or may not be clean. Fuzzy sweater. Attempt to run a brush through my hair, get frustrated and move on to powdering my face. Don't have time for all the works. Perfect, my first day of school after I'm dumped and I look like I've been dumped.
I was going to put on mascara when Remy honks again.

"I'm coming." I yell despite knowing he couldn't hear me. I grab my backpack before running downstairs. Shove my feet into my worn converses before racing out the front door. I'm pretty sure I looked a mess.

"It's about time. What took you so long?" Remy grumbles as I climb into the passenger seat.

I debate lying to him but what was the point. "I forgot you were picking me up and overslept."

Remy doesn't reply as he backs into the street. In the silence and with his attention focused on the road I was able to really look at him. It had been too dark and my eyes were busy crying to night before that I didn't really get a chance to look at him. Okay so I was checking him out. He was hot. Angular jaw, hair that was just long enough to fall into his eyes. Soft full lips that were moving. Oh snap! He was talking to me.

"What?" I ask hoping to sound casual.

"Coffee." Remy repeats.

I tilt my head to the side. "What about it?"

Remy rolls his eyes. "While you were staring at me I had asked if you wanted coffee, I'm stopping at Dutch Bros."

Sure enough he turns into the parking lot the coffee spot was located.

"Oh um...yeah, thanks." I mumble, very embarrassed that he caught me staring.

Remy rolls down his window as he pulls up to order. "Hi, can I get a medium salted caramel mocha." He turns and looks at me expectantly.

"I'll have a...medium iced white chocolate mocha." I order after a moment of thinking.

The girl working takes ours orders and gives up the total. I dig into my backpack and pull out my wallet.

"I got it." Remy says and pays before I can get a word of protest out.

"Thanks." I say softly as Remy pulls up to the next window. He pays and grabs out drinks, handing mine to me.

The rest of the ride to school was spent sipping our drinks and listening to the radio. I'd almost forgotten about Tanner. Almost and then we pull into school and pass his truck. I was so not ready to face him.

I climb out of Remy's car and follow him inside. It surprised me that people didn't stop and stare. High school was a culture tube for gossip and drama.

"So where's your locker?" Remy asks, suddenly turning to stand in front of me. I just about run into his chest.

"What?" I ask, very confused by what just happened.

"Your locker? Where is it?" Remy repeats, looking very agitated.

"That way." I say and point to our right. "Why?"

"No reason." Remy says with a shake of his head. "I'll walk you there."

Now that was weird. I shake my head and step back. "I think I-" My words are cut off when I get a glimpse at what was behind Remy. "Tanner?" His name comes of in a whisper as I step around Remy.

Tanner was leaning up against the wall, smashing his face with Vanessa Greenwalt's. My heart sinks to my feet. We just broke up last night, how could he have moved on so fast.

"Come on." Remy says softly, placing a hand on my shoulder. "He's not worth it."

I suddenly felt very numb. My feet wouldn't move and Remy practically had to shove me to get me out of there. He keeps saying something as we walk but all I could hear was Tanner breaking my heart.
