Nggh. I open my eyes, but then quickly shut them. The room is too bright, and my head feels fuzzy and sore. I try to remember what I'm doing here, but I can't concentrate. My head is pounding now and I still have no idea what's going on. Aargh. I jump off the bed, not caring about the pain, and curl into a ball on the floor. Memories start flitting around my head like moths trapped in a glass case, and everything's screaming or maybe it's just me and... something inside of me just snaps. I feel a great wave of energy rush over me. The sound of glass shattering fills the air. Slowly, I look up. There's a window on the other side of the room. Well, was. Now it's lying in pieces on the floor. But strangely, there is a perfect, clean circle of debris around where I was lying, as if the glass had showered everything but me.
"What's going on?." I say out loud. I stand up and walk over to the window. It looks over a woody forest. The bright midday light plays over lush green oaks. There's a large jacaranda tree right next to my window. I have a fleeting glimpse of an old memory. My old room? But then it's gone.
"Hello, young lady. I assume you are Emmi?" I twirl around. A tall man with wearing a doctor's white coat is standing in the doorway. Suddenly, he moves towards me with an intense expression on his face and I don't really know what happens but suddenly the wall around where he is standing is peppered with shards of glass, making a perfect outline of his body. He smiles, satisfied.
"I realise that you may have questions. But I can help to answer them. Come with me." He tells me.
Why? I think.
"So you can understand what is going on."
I stare at him.
"I didn't say that out loud..." I mutter.
But I walk over to the doorway and follow the strange man out into the hall.
