2 months. it had been two months since amber and fionn had ended it there on the sidewalk. now, as amber walked along that same street, she did not feel the same remorse she might have only a few weeks earlier.
she stopped along the way to buy a newspaper from the lady selling them on the street.
amber would never get tired of seeing her name in bolded letters, right there, on the front page. but there it was, for everyone to see. she smiled proudly as she handed the lady a pound. no longer needing to worry about the money coming out of her pocket.
ever since she published the article about the cup, she had been greatly rewarded. people took pride in her for being such an inspirational voice to the community and she had been placed in the head of the "social justice" column.
when it came to fionn, the last amber had heard from him was when he came to collect his stuff. although they had decided to stay friends, the two hadn't exchanged a single word since then.
however, amber held no harsh feelings for fionn. of course, she was upset the weeks following, but now she only had good songs to say about him now.
tonight had the similar feeling as many nights before, amber had her hands full of important papers to be filed and her good old messenger bag on her shoulder. she kept urging herself not to drop them all over the street, but the wind was strong that day and managed to blow a few loose paper out of her clutch. They twirled in the air and landed gracefully on the other side of the street. Looking for cars, she quickly jogged across the street to retrieve them.
looking up, amber chuckled to herself realizing she had just happened to walk in front of the cup, somewhere she had avoided the last few weeks for obvious reasons.
However, tonight, she was feeling the same burst of energy she did the first time she visited. She looked through the glass windows and managed to make out the familiar glasses wearing boy she had always looked for before.
butterflies were quickly filling amber's stomach, she tried to convince herself it was not from seeing fionn, but just that she was going to have to socialize.
eventually, amber stood up, and bravely opened the doors of the cup.
the door jingled, causing everyone in the shop to look up upon her arrival. amber did her best not to cast her gaze over to fionn while she stood in line, noticing how much it had grown since her article had been written.
after not long enough, amber found herself at the front of line, greeted by the familiar eyes she used to love to see. the butterflies had only grown, and now she felt like she could hear their wings beating in her ears.
amber felt like she had been staring at him for too long, but maybe that was just in her head. seeing him made her realize how much her memory of him had changed in her head. his hair was definitely more chocolate then she remembered it to be. and his eyes sparkled way more than they did in her head.
"hi," amber finally willed herself to say after a long silence.
"hello," fionn replied nonchalantly.
amber hadn't realized how much his voice had run through her head until she heard him speak again in real life. she couldn't tell, but she knew something was going on behind fionn's eyes too.
his deep voice again penetrated her thoughts, this time causing all the memories of the first time they met to come flooding back.
fionn spoke with a raised eyebrow and a small smile on his lips.
"hot chocolate?"
