Art class was fun today. I worked on my paper mache project.

I'm peeling flakes of dried glue off of my hands when the intercom comes on.

"Students and teachers- we will be dismissing by grade level. Seniors may leave for the pep rally now."

3 seniors stand up and throw their backpacks on their shoulders. They all exit the classroom without a word.

Daniel's gonna meet me at the vending machine again, and then we're gonna go find Hailie in the gym.

"Are you excited for the pep rally?" Farrah asks me.

"Ehh, I never really liked them too much, but it's getting us out of class, so I'm cool with it." I reply.

She laughs. "Yeah, that's true."

I take a second to put my project on the counter and zip up my backpack.

"Juniors may leave for the pep rally." The intercom states.

Everyone leaves except for me, Farrah, and three other kids.

"I thought the cheerleaders were going to be in the pel rally." I say to Farrah.

"Oh, they are. I was supposed to be out there, but I missed the last practice," she explains. "So I didn't know the final moves."

"Well, that sucks." I say.

What else can I say?

"Yeah, but at least I can just chill in the bleachers today."

So optomistic.

"Sophmores may leave for the pep rally."

"Well, see you on Monday!" I call to Farrah.

She smiles and waves.

I round the corner and nearly slam into someone. Luckily they stopped before we collided.

The cafeteria is empty. All of the tables have been put up and it feels so spacious.

I keep walking, looking straight ahead, making sure to avoid all of the dirt and trash on the floor.

I push open the door and stand to the right of the vending machine.

I cross my arms to look more relaxed and cool.

Actually, when I'm waiting for someone, I probably look really nervous and lonely. I just don't like it.

I get a text from Hailie and it says:

'Hailie: We're in the sophmore section, very top corner!'

'Waiting for Daniel, be there in a sec'

A big wave of students rushes through the hallway in anticipation for the pep rally. Among them is Daniel.

And Carson.

"Finally!" I joke.

"I had to get my hoodie out of my locker." Daniel tells me.

"It's 70 degrees." Carson says.

"...whatever," he says quietly. "Where are we sitting?"

I move a stray curl from my face. "With Hailie in the very top corner."

"Who's Hailie?" Carson asks.

"She's my friend. She's really nice," I smile. "But I think she's got something up her sleeve because she mentioned bringing someone..."

"You mean, like, a guy?" He asks, pushing up his glasses.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned that.
