Alright, I've got my pajamas, my outfit for Saturday, my deodorant, my toothbrush... Oh, I definitely need my facewash.

I'm packing for the sleepover tonight, and I want to make sure I have everything.

I hurry into the bathroom and grab the white bottle of facewash and throw it into my bag.

"Are you done packing?" My mom asks from the doorway.

"Yes." I answer.

I take my wallet out of my drawer and take out a 20. I fold it and slip it into my pocket.

I zip up my bag after double-checking everything one last time.

My doorway is empty now. Walking out into the living room, I sit down and put on my pink pair of Converse.

When I have them all laced up, I lock the door before closing it behind me and walk over to the car.

My mom waits, the radio playing 'Square Dance' by Eminem.

I open the passenger side door and slide into the slightly-too-warm car.

I stare out the window as the car backs up out of the driveway and starts toward Daniel's house.

My phone lights up, and Daniel's asking when I'm gonna be there.

'Be there in 5 minutes'

"Do-si-do, oh, yo, ho, hello there! Oh, yeah. Don't think I won't go there. Go to Beirut and do a show there. Yeah, you laugh 'til-"

Mom turns the music down and the unfinished lyric hangs in the air.

"Why weren't you watching Lainie at school?" She asks. "I told you to keep an eye on her."

I blink.

"Huh?" I ask.

"I think that she might be okay if you had been watching her." She says.

"So you're blaming this on me?" She can't be.

"That's not what I'm saying-"

"But that's what you mean." I turn the music back on, almost all the way up.

I turn back to the window and try to keep in my frustrations. It's crazy what she tries to blame on me.

We turn in to Daniel's subdivision a couple minutes later.

The car stops when we reach the stop sign. Daniel's sitting on the porch and I waste no time getting out.

"Have a nice time." My mom weakly waves her hand out the window as she drives away.

I don't wave back.

"Finally! I've been waiting for you forever!" Daniel exclaims from the front steps.

"Sorry, I had to make sure I had everything for tonight." I tell him.

I climb the few steps up to his house and sit down on the swing.

"My mom's gonna be at work tonight, so it's just us." Daniel says.

I grin. "Your house is supposedly haunted, though, right? With the ghost who turned the TV channel?"

I giggle as I say the last part.

"It's not funny! I was scared!" Daniel pouts.

"We should just go inside," I suggest. "We can make one of those recipes from Pinterest."

"Okay, good idea. We can distract ourselves with food."

I laugh as he opens up his front door.

I take off my shoes and put them by the door.
