Chapter 1: Life In High School

"Why did you punch him?" I ask, shocked.

"Why'd you kiss him?"

There is always a high school party that all of the popular people go to and I guess I was just accidentally invited this time. I honestly didn't even want to go, but when I called my best friend, Rosemary, and asked her, she practically yelled at me through the phone and said that if I don't go, I will miss out on life. She told me I need to stop playing it safe and go have some fun. So, I'm here, but I'm no longer having fun and I'm guessing you know why.

"What? But.." I say, getting cut off.

"Is he your boyfriend or is he just trying to get into your pants?" He asks accusingly.

Hearing those words coming from his mouth makes me lose my temper.

Who is he to talk? He doesn't even know me.

"What I do and who I do it with is none of your business, Austin," I say, now pissed off.

"Really? So you just show up here in a slutty little dress thinking you can get away with it? I don't think so. They're just going to take advantage of you."

"Since when did you care about me getting hurt? Last I checked, that's what you tried to do to me so get off my back. I can handle myself."

He tries to grab me so I punch him in the face, apparently not hard enough. It looks like it didn't even hurt him.

My hand hurts like hell, though. I think I broke it because it freaking hurts and-holy... it's turning purple!

I wince then look up at him, pissed.

"So, you're just going to slut around all night then? Think you're going to get lucky?"

"How dare you say that? I am not like you, who hits on anything that moves. I certainly don't need to explain myself to you. Goodbye, Austin," I say.

Before I could say anything else, he starts breathing heavily, grabbing my arm and pulling me towards him. He looks at me in a way that starts to make me uncomfortable, so I try to pull away but he just grips me harder. He lifts his hand at me and I flinch.

Is he about to slap me?

"Hey man, leave the young lady alone, will ya?" I hear a soft voice say.

Ash walks out of the shadowed corner.

"Oh. S-sure man. Sorry."

Austin lets me go and backs away from me then walks off.

Ash Gunner. The captain of the varsity football team. He is also the cutest guy at Echo Creek High School.
