Chapter 5

She hung up and called Harry, she just needed to hear his voice. That voice who calmed so many times her anger or sadness. That voice she cherrished so bad.

” Mae? What’s going on love?” That voice said answering the phone. She fell in tears and tried to explain the situation as she put on her shoes. She started running to the hospital since it was not so far away.

” -Calm down honey! I can’t hear you very well if you run and cry at the same time. Do you want me to come see you?

 -Yes, please. Come I need you. Hospital. Now.” Was that even English? Mae didn’t know, but how would it matter? Her sister was at the hospital! Just at the thought she ran even faster and hung up the phone. She knew he understood what she said. It was just an instinct, but somehow, she was certain. She couldn’t see anything as the tears blinded her. Her phone rang just at the moment where she was about to cross the road and be killed by a car. It was Helen. Mae didn’t even realise her friend just saved her life.

” -Helen! Come! Hospital! Now! Jessica!!

 -Oh god! I’m on my way! Mae don’t do anything stupid! I’ll be there in two!” She hang the phone and started running even faster and arrived to the hospital in no more than one minute.

” -Mom! Dad! Where is she? What happened?! Where’s Jessica!?

 -Honey, Mae! Please calm down, we’re waiting for the doctor!

 -How could you ever be so calm dad? Your daughter just had an accident and she’s at the hospital!” Mae screamed as the arms of her father held her from running into every room looking for Jessica. In the corner was her mother, Heather and Stephanie. Her mother was in tears, she looked worst than her daughters. She took a closer look to her father. He didn’t cry, like always, but she saw the deep pain in his eyes. She could feel it. Somehow, it calmed her down and she sat next to her sisters and mother. She did her best to stop crying, it’s not crying that would heal Jessica. Mae needed to take over the pain and help her family.

  The doors opened wide as she saw the familiar brown curls entering the room. She jumped up and then saw that Louis, Liam, Niall and Zayn were there as well followed by Helen. Somehow, that surprisse did manage to put a smile, small but a true smile, on her red face. She ran into Harry’s arms.  They shared a long hug. Then, Harry stepped and held her face in his hands looking in her green eyes drowning in the tears.

” -Helen told me. What happened to your sister love?

 -They were on the road. A drunk driver hit them on Jessica’s side. We’re waiting now.

 -Come on, I’ll stay with you.

 -Sorry to interrumpt, but Harry, do you want us to tell Paul? We’ll stay as well if it doesn’t bother any of you” Liam stepped in the conversation. Mae was touched as Zayn, Niall and Louis nodded in agreement. They weren’t her idols for no reasons. That’s why she loved them. They stick togheter and they care about their fans.

“Thank you guys… This means so much to me, but I doubt you have any time for me, do you?” Mae asked as she knew already the answer.

“We’ll take the time. It’s not a question,” said Harry and he turned to Liam “yes, please tell Paul I’ll stay with her, you can stay as well it’ll probably make her feel better.” He was talking like she wasn’t there, but she didn’t care. He did so much for, it was adorable. End of the story. She stopped starring at Harry’s green eyes and looked at Helen. She was almost in tears as well. Whenever one or another cried, the other cried as well because it was just so hard to see someone you love like they loved eachother being hurt.

 It’s been 3 hours Mae, Helen, Heather, Stephanie, Mae’s parents and the boys were waiting to hear about Jessica. Mae was into Harry’s arms and couldn’t stop crying. Still his streight made her feel a bit better. In the waiting, Helen has been talking with Zayn, Niall, Louis and Liam a lot. Zayn and Louis fell asleep after two hours and now Helen and Niall kept talking and seemed being really close. Of course the conversation wasn’t really joyful, but it’s by talking about the intense emotions like sadness and fear that you learn to know about a person. Soon enough the two of them came closer and at around midnight, Helen fell asleep on Niall’s shoulder.

 Mae didn’t find sleep. She stayed in Harry’s quietly. She wasn’t crying anymore because any source of water in her body was vanished. The pain was still very present and all she wanted to do was to see her sister. She’d do anything to see her older sister, Jessica. She has been very close to her in the past years and loosing her would destroy every little piece of her. As her mind drifted on what might happen next, the doctor enter the room looking down in his papers. She tried to read his expression, but she couldn’t determine if it was good news or bad news. She woke everyone up when she yelled: “Just tell me now! Is she okay?”
