I awoke around noon, way later than I had expected because I set my alarm for eight. I was now irritated, nervous and a little flustered. How would I get through the dinner today in pumps as tall as my computer? How would I get through a dinner where my mother meets my family of vampires? What if one of our jokes slipped about them?
I threw my hair in a wavy pull through pony, looking as good as I could get it. I even used mascara that Rose had secretly packed in with the pink and black suit dress that she let me borrow, along with a coach bracelet and a pink and gold flower necklace. She was TOO good to me, well they all were. Demetrius had spent all week here with my mother and I, which was odd yet delightful. She didn't comment on his piercing, or even his tattoos he had revealed when he wore a T-shirt one day. She got along with him, and actually seemed to accept how he looked. Because deep down, he was nothing like he was on the outside. He was sweet, kind hearted, pained, and old fashioned, the perfect man for my mother actually. Too bad he was too 'young' for her. I had to laugh to myself, he was too old for the both of us.
Finally I was done getting ready, and yet still too nervous to really function. I knew my mother would like them, but I didn't know if things had simmered down between Rose and Demetrius, or even if things had been handled with the two creepy men from Saturday night. I didn't know how uncomfortable or quiet this dinner would be. I walked to the living room, where my mother was no where in sight.
"Mom?"
"Yes Alianna?!" I heard her shout from the basement, that explained it.
"Our ride will be here a little less than an hour from now."
"Alright, I'm just ironing your coat for the night."
"Thank you!"
When the big black SUV had arrived I realized how sick my nerves had made me. Knowing the Montgomery's I knew the ride would be semi-long, but would it be long enough to calm myself? I doubt it.. I couldn't even begin to imagine what this dinner would consist of.. My mother and I had talked about school and such on the ride over, I forgot how little time we had alone this week. I wonder if she thought Demetrius was distracting me? We were in my room most of the time, but he had helped me with a lot of my school work, which had surprised me because usually I get irritated when people put their noses in my work.
Demetrius was waiting outside for us at the restaurant, he even opened the door and helped my mother and I both out. His hand was wrapped around my back, holding me tightly to him as we walked in to be seated. He took off my jacket, and gently brushed my bangs back behind my ear, kissing my forehead. He was so gentleman like in public, it was so cute. My mother had looked shocked when she seen Rose at the table with her young parents.
"Why, hello there." She greeted them, shaking their hands as she kept her flushed smile on their faces.
"It's so nice to finally meet you Mrs.Rivendale." Richard chimed, which was weird because I had never told him my last name, but he did get ahold of my medical file. He was a very knowing man, and I'm sure he could figure out anything. When Julia had greeted my mom next, she hugged her and became very giddy, and my mother had seamed to enjoy it. Which was again weird, but I couldn't complain. I was happy she was accepting them.
I sat between Demetrius and Rose, and my mother had sat across from Rose but next to Julia. She and Julia hadn't stopped talking since we got here. Rose and Richard were talking about Rose gaining a stage job at the club, and that left Demetrius and I alone in conversation.
He slipped me a small red velvet box under the table.
"What is this?"
"Just open it." he winked and did his grin. I opened the box to find a beautiful diamond necklace, with a white gold chain. It had three diamonds, a large in the center and a small on each side.
