*Bana's POV

Aw man...

Yesterday's whooping was indeed worse than I feared. At least it was not done before anyone else...

It went like this. After Mom overheard my back-talk about Gohan and made her own crisp remarks, we beat hasty retreats to Trunks while taking to the air. That day she apparently would not let me off the hook, however, so I ended up getting whooped ten times on the backside at stratospheric level; luckily there were no planes in sight.

"How many times must you be told not to bad-mouth anyone behind their backs?!" she fumed while upending me mid-air, heedless of my groans. "Do it again and I'll make it thirty!" she added as we flew the rest of the way home.

Gosh...

It was not 'til afternoon that the feelings of pain and shame began to subside--such is her 'power' level.

Over dinner I tried to explain the facts about my first meeting with Gohan, and how I was 'only' expressing my impressions of him ("Now come on; it's not normal for any Saiyan to behave like such!")--but Mom would not flinch.

"Why not take it as part of his efforts to adapt to Earthen life?"

Well, if you put it that way...

Alright, that was that--though the remark still stings. Presently, as I had said to Trunks, I'm gonna see if I could spot this Gohan somewhere in the city; maybe after school.

One of the last in today's lessons was Earthen history; a subject I'm quite keen to learn on despite its sometimes-cumbersome dates and years. Our teacher also explained at great lengths how this planet had went through multiple threats to its very survival, yet it--and its people--had stood firm. Here I was careful not to ask about anything that might suggest alienation to these guys, 'cause in fact some of them had begun to like having me around; if not for my hair (yup, blondies are quite rare round here), then maybe for that flair in sports. It's the only other way that I could 'train' without harming anyone.

The bell rang at midday. Time to go home; or try look for Gohan.

"Say, Alba..."

"What is it?"

On the way I greeted a girl who really seemed to favor brown, for it's the color of her hair, eyes, coat--oh yes, and even backpack.

"Going anywhere after this?"

"No, straight home. You should too, Bana, or your mama's gonna be edgy. Then it's the principal's."

Alright sis, got a point there--but not yet, thanks. Just felt like asking. Besides, instead of telling her what to do, I bet the principal's going down before Mom.

"Careful on your way, then."

"Thanks. Let's hope it doesn't rain today; brought no umbrellas... Oh, by the way..." she stopped.

"...What?"

"Paid any attention to that last class? About aliens and such... Do you believe they exist at all?"

I shrugged.

"Do you really expect me to?"

"Nope, just wanted to hear it from you."

"Well, if such things did happen, guess we were lucky not to be part of it. Right?"

She looked away.

"My grandparents died during one of those monsters' attacks, it's said in my family. Still too young to get it then, so..."

"Oh... sorry to hear that."

Alba sniffed.

"...Doesn't matter. Guess I'll just go home. Again, Bana, you better do the same."

...

...Aliens, huh? Well, we are them too in a sense; but... there were really other comers before us? Just how far did they try to rock this planet's people..?

Duh. Better ask Mom later, and my sympathies for Alba's family. Now, back on track: find Gohan!

Now, let's see... where to look for him...

I would not know if people in this city had heard anything about Gohan son of Goku; his signature yellow flying cloud; husband to Videl the daughter of Hercule, or even the 'Great Saiyaman'. Those would ring bells in just the opposite city. Only clue I got about him is his saying that he works here; now, trying to track him with that alone is complete nonsense.

Lots of people do, kiddo, they would scoff at me; and I really don't like being made a fool of by those undeserving it.

--Wait a sec.

--Videl the daughter of Hercule.

No matter how weakly I estimated that geezer's punch-and-blow, Gohan did say that the people had granted his father-in-law a city of his own name. Why would that not make that geezer at least partly renowned? They might, even here, have tried to snoop at some details of his private life; including the name of his daughter.

Yes, and Gohan is now husband to such a daughter.

There we go!

Ah, now comes the next hurdle. What business may a half-pint have with such 'illustrious' figures?

Ugh... must I call in again that 'Saiyan favor'? The common folks just wouldn't get it...

...

...

...Dang it. Time for the ace, then.

Public phone booth, where are you~

...Found it! Aw, but it's occupied... Come on now...

That person's done. My turn.

I dialled a familiar number, and waited.

"Hello, Bulma speaking~"

"Ah, Auntie? It's Bana. Does Trunks happen to be near?"

"Why, he's entering the room now. What's the matter?"

"Would you mind passing the phone to him?"

"Here he is..." the voice soon changed. "Yo. Right from school though. What is it?"

"Cousin, you owe me a guide's task."

"...What?"

"Don't 'what?' me; it's about that visit to Kakarot's house. Think you could manage it sometime later?"

"...Oh, that. Got extra homework today after my nap, that I'd love to do right now. Tomorrow fine?"

"Tomorrow, then; I'll get'cha after school. Be prepared."

"*Huffs* ...Okay, relax. It's Goten you really wanna meet, or his dad?"

"It's Gohan. Kakarot's house might be a net to scoop all three."

"Why, you know he's married; might not be seen round his dad's house anytime soon. Why not go to his own house instead?"

"Yeah, well, you know the way to both."

"...You bugger, that's why you called me. Fine then, midday tomorrow. Out."

The phone went dead, and I went home.
