hey guys here is an update I hope you guys are enjoying my book. ☺I Love you guys. ♥ (The definition of the chapter title is; to make or become better, more bearable, or more satisfactory, improve. synonym: amend, antonym: worsen.)
I was woken from my pain plagued sleep as flaming agony spread over every inch of my skin. I let out a weak whimper as someone picked me up and carried me bridal style. I heard the the familiar sounds of paws and untrimmed claws padding against the floor to my right. I forced my eyes open. "Saber?" I said as loud as I could with the little energy I had. I smiled weakly when I heard Sabers bark in reply and I glanced up to see Demetria was the one carrying me. "I apologize for not reuniting you and your dog earlier, I didn't want to risk it injuring you further. I'm bringing you to the shower room and washing your wounds. Then I'll have Cinder dress your injuries. Nathaniel gave you something to make you sleep so you won't be in pain. You will be unconscious in a few minutes," She stated. I could feel myself getting drowsier as each second passed. Demetria looked down at me, and for a second I swear I saw her eyes softened and filled with deep concern, but it vanished within seconds. "I promise to do everything I can to protect you. I promise nothing will happen to you while you are out cold. I promise that you will be treated gently." She vowed. I creased my brow in confusion and closed my eyes. Why is she being so kind to me again? Why is she showing such concern? Why should she care so much? Apparently there is some prophecy, but why does that make her so concerned? I wonder if she's going to just repeatedly cycle through, kindness, confusion, and anger, and just leave me baffled. Shots of pain roared across my body as Demetria shifted me in her arms then set me down on what felt like cold metal. I felt Saber licking my cheek then Demetria said, "Rosetta, get Ophelia, Ember, Ahsoka, and Scarlet, to guard the shower room. Get Nathaniel and Cinder as standby in case abrupt medical attention is needed." There was a gust of wind that signaled what could only be Rosetta leaving in a blur. Demetria placed a hand on my forehead. "When you wake up, you will be safely back in my private den, with your dog." I felt the world growing fuzzy, then everything faded away as I fell into unconsciousness.
I woke up in discomfort. Saber licked my cheek as I opened my eyes. He was laying next to me. I noticed that my entire torso and shoulders had been wrapped in cloth bandages. I could tell that there were several other bandages on my arms and legs as well. Moore's voice broke my thoughts as he scoffed "Look who finally woke up." I just closed my eyes and stayed silent. I didn't have the energy to throw back a sarcastic comment and nor did I want to. I remembered I'd rather not antagonise Moore after what happened last time I set him off, I didn't feel like being thrown across a room. Saber rested his head on my hip and I winced, but didn't make him move. I heard a door open then close. I almost didn't recognize her voice as she said "Leave us." It was so gentle, welcoming, kind, I could've almost sworn it wasn't Demetria's voice, until I opened my eyes to see her staring at me deeply concerned. I closed my eyes and relaxed. I assumed Moore left the room as I heard the door open and close a second time. I heard footsteps and then Saber shifted next to me to make room for Demetria to sit down on the bed. "You're lucky to still be alive," she stated, "A good few of your whiplash injuries went down to the bone." I laid there unmoving and didn't respond, as I thought. I wish I was dead, I wish there was a way I could kill myself because this pain is torture in itself. I'm so exhausted, I've had enough of their mystery and confusion. My body is literally skin and bones, I'm malnourished to the point my body is slowly shutting itself down. I felt hands grab the sides of my face. I let out a weak pained cry as she tightened her grip, squeezing bruises and cuts in the process. I could tell there was the undertone of a growl in her voice as she said "You're not listening. Open your eyes and Listen!" I forced my eyes to open. I was met with her bright glowing eyes that seemed to see through to my mind's eye. She pulled her hands away and said "I apologize. You have been unconscious for several days. Long after the medicine Nathaniel gave you wore off. I feared you wouldn't wake up, leaving the prophecy unfulfilled. My Char group would have turned to ashes as stated in the prophecy and the six remaining descendants of the true blood left battling to death." I gazed at her confused as the glowing red faded from her eyes. I laid there mesmerized by her words. Char will turn to ashes and the six remaining descendants of the true blood left battling to death. Six remaining, that means someone in Char is a descendant of "the true blood" whoever that is? I took in a sharp intake of breath as she pulled me to sit up. "Do you need something? Food? Medicine? Water? You're too quiet. I don't like it, I don't like my things damaged." I looked at her confused as she placed a hand on Sabers back. Saber lifted his head to look up at her. She opened her mouth to say something but quickly closed it and nodded. I'm so confused what had just happened. It's so strange how she and him can seemingly talk to one another. I swear it's like they have complex conversations within the time span of glance.
She turned to me and I saw her stiffen, then Saber barked. Demetria growled at him in reply. I tried to move away, unnerved by their commune, but my effort only caused me more pain than it was worth. Demetria gave me a look that made me freeze, my hair stood on end. I was fear stricken. I felt myself shaking. She commanded "Do. Not. Move." She composed herself before continuing "You will recover here. I do not need you to injure yourself further by trying to get around. I and a choice few other members of my group will look after you while you recover." I gulped and managed to mumble something along the lines of "Yes ma'am," and "Okay." Suddenly, a thought struck me and I couldn't stop the questioning words from bursting out of my mouth. I weakly questioned "If you healed the wound you gave me, when you bit me, then why don't you heal me now? And why didn't you heal me when Adder bit me or when Moore hit me across the room?" I could see Demetria pondering my question, she glanced at Saber and he sat up and stared at her. Then she turned back to me stating "The injuries you have now and received from Fang, Adder and Moore are different." Her answer only twisted the vines of confusion in my mind more. I weakly replied "I can see how the injuries Moore, and Fang's clan gave me are different, but Adder bit me just the same as you did only he tried to drain me. How is that different?" Demetria let out a quiet snarl as she replied "It's not easily explained. It's complicated. Some of us are more gifted than others with certain... unique qualities. For example; I can make you tell me the truth, I can manipulate your actions. I can communicate with specific guardian species like your dog or wolves. Most Vampires can only heal injuries they inflict by fang. I am more gifted than most, I can heal any injury I inflict upon you. Therefore I can not heal the wounds Moore, Adder or Fang's clan gave you. which is severally frustrating." Saber barked three times which caused Demetria to roll her eyes. Saber pulled his ears back and showed his teeth to her. She turned to him, spitting "No! She's not ready. She's too fragile. Too important!" Saber let out a snarled bark but Demetria growled silencing him. I closed my eyes wishing for sleep, or death if it wanted to come and give me escape. Demetria's voice broke my thoughts, she said "I'll suppose it's time I got you something to eat, or drink. You're probably starving." My stomach growled proving her statement as she walked out of the room. Sleep took over seconds later, although my pain has since kept me from getting a deserved rest. I constantly drift in and out of the bliss of a light sleep and the agony of every waking moment.
