Matthew was quickly roused by a dwarven figure slapping him awake. Matthew blinked to clear his eyes. "Hurry up, you're an hour late," Jeffrey grumbled, "as much as I despise you, I want my record to look good, and that means getting everyone on this team past tryouts.". Jeffrey shoved Matthew off his bed, "now go on you, get dressed," Jeffrey tossed Matthew a set of green robes, "our team color is green, ironically the color makes me sick," Jeffrey explained. Matthew gave Jeffrey a look and Jeffrey blushed, "I'll give you some privacy," with that Jeffrey left the room and closed the door. He hesitantly put them on. The clothes were too big. He considered asking Jeffrey for a new set but dismissed the thought after he heard Jeffrey banging on his door, "HURRY UP ALREADY!", Jeffrey yelled. Matthew opened the door and was dragged away by a fuming dwarf. "Why are humans so slow?", Jeffrey dragged Matthew down the hall towards a looming crowd and pushed him into it. Matthew bumped straight into Jenny. "Sorry," Matthew mumbled. "Where have you been," Jenny hissed, "you missed breakfast.". Matthew opened his mouth to reply but was cut short by Isiah, who had just made his way onto the stage. "Hope you all had a good night's rest," said Isiah. The crowd hushed. It was only then that Matthew remembered last night's strange events. "What was that?", Matthew thought to himself. He was ripped away from his thoughts by Isiah's booming British accent, "you shall now get in your teams and find your chaperone.". It took Matthew ten minutes to find Jeffrey, and by then he was the last person to find his chaperone. Jeffrey glared as Matthew sat next to him, "late again, at this rate you have no chance of making it in, so why do you even try?". Matthew rolled his eyes and Jeffrey rolled his. Jeffrey got up and motioned for the group to follow him. Jeffrey led the group down a green carpeted hall. "This is our group hall," Jeffrey mumbled, It is usually dedicated to the college division, but group 14 will be using it now for practice, shopping, and other stuff, If we make it past tryouts that is," Jeffrey eyed everyone carefully, and Matthew noted that he seemed to look at him a second longer than he looked at everyone else. "Now I have to introduce you to your testing instructor," Jeffrey pointed to a middle-aged high elf in front of them. "Greetings," said the elf in a gruff and sturdy voice, "my name is Thel, and I am one of the wizardry instructors here at Eaglefort, and I will be your testing instructor as my good friend Jeffrey may have already informed you," Thel patted Jeffrey on the back and took no notice of Jeffrey's groan. "I still have some rules that I need to inform you about," Thel fished a paper out from his pocket and cleared his throat as he began to read, "your group will be faced with 15 challenges, the challenges are not designed to test you on your ability with magic, but your willingness to work as a team and if you have natural talent in magic.". Matthew looked around to see his whole group frown when Thel informed them that they weren't going to be tested in magic, but it was a relief to Matthew because now he actually had a chance to make it in. "After each challenge, you will get a two-day break to do whatever you need, but be sure you're back here on time," Jeffrey eyed Matthew and Matthew rolled his eyes. "I will be judging your behavior as well as your skill.". Ryan raised his hand. "Yes, dwarf," Thel looked down at Ryan. "Um, my name is Ryan," Ryan looked up at Thel. "Yes, sorry," Thel gave him an apologetic grin. "Anyway," Ryan started, "I thought you just said you weren't going to grade us on our skill.". "Well," Thel quickly said, "you know what I meant, anyway you have 30 minutes before the first challenge starts," with that Thel walked away. Matthew's stomach rumbled and for the first time, he realized how hungry he was. Aaron turned toward him and tossed him a chicken sandwich, "this was all I could save for you.". Matthew grinned thankfully and devoured the sandwich. It was probably the best-tasting thing he had eaten in a long time. "Now stop dilly-dallying!", Jeffrey shouted and tossed Matthew a wand and a rusted shortsword, handed Ryan a mace, flung a quarterstaff at Jenny, pitched Calista an orb, and rolled Aaron a staff, all of which were the cheapest quality Matthew has ever seen. The group studied their new equipment. "This is it?", Calista mumbled. Jeffrey's ears perked up, "stop whining, this is the best the school can afford for the tryouts, you'll get something better once you get in, plus the first challenge begins in 5 minutes, you better get ready.". Matthew noticed a tall and slender figure walk up behind Jeffrey. "Not in 5 minutes, it begins right now, said Thel.
