Matthew stared at the stale bread and overcooked ham on his plate. "It's the best we can afford," said Ben, noticing the disgusted look on his face. "This is even worse than the leftovers that the restaurant five blocks away gave us," Matthew complained. "If only the guards hadn't closed it because of tax technicalities," Ben frowned. Matthew reluctantly ate his meal, gagging as he did so. Matthew then made his way to his bed but was stopped by Ben. "You need to finish your chores before you sleep," Ben reminded him. Matthew groaned and went outside. He pushed a bale of hay to the stables. Feeding handful after handful of hay to his favorite horse, a black stallion with a pentacle tattooed onto its forehead. Ben had paid a fortune to a warlock for it, and for that reason, Ben was constantly bugging him about selling it. Every time that Ben would ask Matthew would say, "not even for three magic beans.". As soon as Ben had bought it, Matthew fell in love with the horse and even named it. The color of the horse reminded him of the nightmare that he had seen earlier. "Wonder what that was about," he mumbled to himself, "Was probably nothing, right Liam?" Liam looked questioningly at Matthew. "MATTHEW!" cried Ben looking through the window "COME BACK INSIDE!". "Got to go," Matthew explained. Liam snorted, as Matthew sprinted back to the house.

"Yeah?", Matthew asked. "I've got a brilliant idea!", Ben exclaimed. "Oh no," Matthew groaned. Ben ignored him, "I already filled out the paperwork, tomorrow you are going to audition for Eaglefort Academy!" Ben smiled. "Oh no," Matthew repeated, as butterflies fluttered in his stomach. "Oh yes," Ben frowned, "Matthias Carquin, you are going to join Eaglefort academy, and you are going to be very excited about it.". Eaglefort academy was a public school where people naturally gifted at magic studied to become even better mages, or at least that's what their flyer said. "Now get some rest, you're going to need it for tomorrow.". Matthew groaned and slid into his bed, too tired to change or brush his teeth, he was asleep before he hit the bed.
