Matthew took a deep breath. He needed this to be perfect, or his only shot at a real job would be wasted. Matthew looked at his work. "Looks like an ogre and an ettin had a baby," remarked Ben. "Sorry," said Matthew, "pottery just isn't my thing". "Follow me" Commanded Ben "But aren't we going to wait until the store manager assesses me for the job?" Matthew frowned "You already know the outcome of that." Ben teased. Ben walked out of the store. Matthew sighed. Ben was his father or at least the one that raised him when he was little, but they didn't share the best relationship. For the past month, Ben has been bugging him to get a job. "You're sixteen" Ben reminded him as he walked out of the store "You need an income source after I'm gone, and once I'm old and can't get any more money from farming, you need to take care of old Benny" Ben teased. "Whatever" Matthew rolled his eyes "There are no fun or interesting jobs in Eaglefort, except..." "No" Ben interrupted, "You can't join the military, I have no interest in getting you killed.". "How about a spell caster?" Ben pondered "Those always get the most money." "Remember the last time I tried to cast a spell?" Ben nodded "You burned the house down, but that was when you were 11, and young spellcasters always overshoot their first fireball.". Matthew blushed "It was supposed to be a healing spell.". "Oh." now it was Ben's turn to blush. "Well, we could try again," Ben started. Matthew quickly interrupted,"And burn down another building, then get arrested for arson, no thanks" Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Anyway, I need to use the water closet, can you wait for me?" Ben didn't even wait for an answer as he hurried back to the store.

Suddenly a nightmare charged past him. A nightmare in Eaglefort was rare, however, the rider of the nightmare though was the most intriguing part. He was clad in half-plate armor, but it seemed to be made of an unknown metal, It was pure black in color, and seemed to have no evidence of paint. he was wearing black dragon leather boots, gloves, as well as a dragon wing fiber cloak with a hood. His mask resembled a skull made from the same material as his armor, but what Matthew noticed the most was the strange-looking sickle that hung from his belt. The sickle was actually white in color, and Matthew almost immediately recognized it as adamantine, a strong metal utilized by the drow. The rider dismounted, and the nightmare rode off. Quickly, the rider's armor and sickle disappeared into a small cloud of black smoke. Underneath his armor, was a young moon elf wearing gothic black robes. The moon elf couldn't have been more than 175 years old, which if translated to human years, would be about 19. The moon elf blew some of his silvery white hair off of his face, walked over to a general store."Why would a moon elf show his face around here? Since nearly 500 years ago they were driven to near extinction by the sun elves, they avoided civilized places?" Matthew wondered out loud. The moon elf, oblivious to the fact that everyone was staring at him, walked to the general store right next to the pottery store. "one bag of beef jerky," he said in perfect English. The shopkeeper looked up from his newspaper "I don't sell to pointy ears.". This was common, as racism was a part of Eaglefort, in fact, one out of every 10 stores had a "Humans only" sign in front of them. The moon elf nodded and walked away, then glanced at Matthew. For the first time, Matthew saw something terribly different. The elf's eyes- the pupils were completely black, instead of the normal pale blue shared by almost all other moon elves. The moon elf winked at Matthew and in an instant, his armor reappeared with a puff of black smoke. He whistled and his nightmare was suddenly there. The elf mounted and as quickly as it had appeared, the nightmare was gone, galloping in the distance. That was the time Ben chose to return from the water closet. "Now, where was I?" Ben pondered for a minute, "Ah, that's right, spellcasting"
