Chapter 9

“He did what?” Carly yelled from my closet only to reenter my room five seconds later. “That’s ridiculous.”

“Why would he say that?” Julie looked up from her phone.

“Maybe because I’m not the girl he was talking about,” I told them both.

Both of my new friends snorted in disbelief. Julie didn’t even look up from her phone, “Trust me. He likes you, Case.”

I rolled my eyes, “I don’t care if he does anyways.”

Carly laughed again, “Then why are you upset now?”

“I’m not upset,” I defended myself.

            “You clearly are,” Julie said.

            “Whatever,” was my only response.

“I’ve got an idea,” Carly squeaked.

“Oh, no,” Julie groaned. I laughed.

            “It’s a good idea, I promise.”

“Okay, what is it?” I insisted.

Carly got an evil look on her face as she rubbed her hands together, “Instead of going to the movies… we should go out. I heard Mark is having a bonfire.”

“How is that a good idea?” Julie commented.

“Well, it’ll get Daniels attention,” Carly noted.

“Oh, no this that is a terrible idea,” Julie sat up straight.

“Why? I think it’ll work,” I commented out of the blue. “I think I could use a few drinks in me. I haven’t had a sip of alcohol since the beginning of the school year.”

            “It’s settled then,” Carly smiled.

“This should be interesting,” Julie said but got up and headed toward my closet.

An hour and a half later we were standing in front of my mirror looking out our outfits. I smoothed down my printed top that flowed to my jeans. I glanced down at my brown boots my father just bought for me. I loved them.

We all piled in Julie’s car and headed out to a nearby farm. There were tons of cars. I saw trucks closer to the fire with their beds open. People were laughing and swinging their beer cans as they chanted the latest Miranda Lambert song.

            “This is different,” I laughed.

“What no bonfires back home?” Julie smiled.

            I shook my head no.

“Look who it is,” the three of us turned to see Brad sitting on the edge of his truck bed. He had a girl on his left and right.

Julie rolled his eyes, “It’s always so nice to see you, Bradley.”

            Carly and I laughed.

“Do your boy toys know you are here? I’m sure Daniel will have a field day if he knew you were here,” Brad pointed right at me.
