That morning was different. It was Ditiya last day in her office and last night in Chicago. She got up from the bed, feeling heavy. There was a pain in her heart, the pain of parting. She loved her job. It gave her new opportunity and also a bunch of wonderful friends. She loved them all and was indebted to them, for their unconditional love and support. But above all, she loved Chicago. A city, which gave her the chance to share a part of her life with Dhruv. It was nearly impossible for her to imagine a life in a different space. But unfortunately, the good times were about to be over. She was about to move where there would be nobody to make her heart bit little faster. Memories gushed at her and tears oozed out. She felt choked.
The atmosphere in her office was different; her colleagues were really in off mood. She was an important part of their team and an awesome friend. They did not want to bid her adieu.
Ditiya knew what she would wear for her see off: her royal-blue Armani skirt suit and when she arrived, her male collogues could not resist gazing at her looks. Ditiya felt a bit embarrassed at the amount of attention she drew.
Her manager had organized a grand farewell party for her in 'Five & Dine lounge'.
Unable to resist, he went to her cubicle and looked straight into her eyes. The piercing, intent look, made her uneasy, but she managed a smile.
The day was a busy one for her; releasing formalities were boring and tiring. But whenever she was free, she looked around and admired. She imbibed whatever she could.
With a huge bouquet of charming flowers, some thoughtful greeting cards and gifts, loads of heartfelt wishes, cherished memoirs and tearful eyes, she left. And as she looked back for the very last time, her cubicle looked back at her. She could clearly see the note, where she had enlisted her 'to be done' work, attached to the soft board. She remembered the moment when she had hastily ticked off the last job and felt relieved. Tears appeared once again, but she refrained. She left the premises with a smile, boarded her car, and headed towards she shared with Dhruv for the last time.
........
Ditiya sat down on the floor, and her eyes wandered over the cardboard boxes all around the room. Most of her things were packed up, ready to move.
She had none of these things when she came here, she just came with one handbag and one wheeled suitcase. The crazy thing is she didn't realize when she started buying so many things; she didn't realize when she made this place her home.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a very soft knock on the door. With the back of her hand, Ditiya wiped the tear from her eye and said, "Come in."
The door swung open slowly to reveal the tired-looking, pale-faced Dhruv standing at the door frame, "He Ditz. I realize it's late, and I hope I didn't wake you up."
She shook her head slowly, never once looking away from.
"Sorry but I had to say goodbye and wish you a safe journey, didn't I," Dhruv whispered, surprised that he could sound so calm, so normal when he felt so incredibly depressed. "I'll miss you."
Her dark brows arched warily. "Will you really?"
"I will," His voice seemed to confirm.
After another long moment spent, he sighed and drew her close against his long, hard body. "I'll miss you, too." she murmured, pressing her lips to his chest.
"Sorry about the last week or whenever I avoided you." Ditiya shivered in delight as his long fingers brushed over her hair.
"I'm sorry, too."
