The news of the queens engagement spread around the world of the Moroi overnight. Waking up the morning after the royal's party, everyone knew and had something to say about either the proposal itself, the ring or that it's Christian Ozera.
Being Sunday, Dimitri goes to church in the morning and I follow. We sit next to each other in the pew furthest to the back with a respectable distance between us, being church and all. God probably already shuns us for the whole not 'waiting until marriage' thing, so best not to disrespect the church.
As the priest drones on about something I don't care about, I zone out completely, thinking of things I shouldn't be thinking of, stuff that would make Lissa blush if she heard it and stuff Dimitri and I would be doing tonight.
Dimitri is doing his reflection thing like usual, I tried to do so many times, but I prefer to leave the dead out of my mind. As if feeling my gaze, He turns his head to me and meets my gaze with a loving smile.
He goes to hold my hand, but I pull it away like he is on fire. "God is watching." I whisper and point towards the sky. I love teasing him.
Dimitri quirks an eyebrow playfully at me. "Where was that attitude last night?"
I reach out quickly and hit him in the stomach. He just laughs soundlessly and catches my hand, interlacing our fingers, before sliding me down the pew towards him.
After church Dimitri leads me towards one of the trees standing to the side. He leans up against the trunk and pulls me into him. I love Sundays.
"What do you want to do today?" I ask him, resting my hands against his chest. He was wearing a tight black shirt and I could see the muscles in his chest moving through it. He didn't usually wear shirts this tight out in public, but I didn't mind. I loved when girls looked at him, wanting him, because I had him and he looked at me, wanting me.
Me or my hair.
"I can think of a few things" He teases, playing with a lock of my hair. What did I say, he loved it probably more than me.
I poke my tongue out at him and pull it back in quickly when he makes a move to grab it in his hand. "Well, I'm hungry"
"You're always hungry"
"Yes." I agree, not bothering to deny such an obvious fact. He has seen me it four burgers at McDonalds after we were stuck for a day without food, there's no denying it. "But can we still get food?"
Dimitri nods. "Anything for you Roza." He leans down and kisses me and I kiss him back. After what was probably too long to be making out in public, we break apart.
"And here I thought you would never stop."
I turn my head to the sound of Mikhail's voice. He stands alone with his arms crossed. I don't want to know how long he has been standing there.
"What's up Mikhail?" I ask, fully turning and leaning my back against Dimitri. His hands immediately wrap around my waist and he rests his chin on the top of my head.
"Hans wants to see you both in his office." Mikhail says "Got some big mission he wants you to be apart of" He waves his hands to emphasise the word big and wiggles his eyebrows.
Dimitri shares a look with me. His more wary whereas mine more excited. "What's it about?"
Mikhail shrugs. "Not sure, I'm not going. Got wedding stuff to do that Sonya wouldn't let me get out of." Oh yeah, the other marriage within our group of friends that caused Dimitri to first pester me. They are getting married next month I think. I don't know the exact date but I probably should, given I am a bridesmaid.
"Alright then." I say, escaping out of Dimitri's arms then pull him off the tree. "lead the way"
We find Hans in his office as expected, along with Alberta and a a Guardian named David who I have never spoken to.
When Alberta sees me, she squashes me into a hug that I return with no hesitation. She has watched me grow since I was five, and I kind of missed her after she went back to the academy to teach again.
After pulling away from each other and noticing the look of annoyance on Hans face, we all move to stand over his desk were heaps papers are laid out in no orderly manner.
"Last night, the Voda Princess was on her way back to the court when she was attacked and two of her three guardians were killed by a Strigoi group. She currently is lying low at a motel but needs to get back here before dark when the Strigoi will no doubt attack her again.
"I want you four to travel the two and a half hours to her motel and rescue her before nightfall. I have here the codes where she is staying, where the Strigoi are most likely hiding out and a map of where to drive. Any questions?"
No one speaks and Hans continues to lay out the plan for us quickly. Dimitri and I return to his room to dress appropriately. I'm pulling on a pair of jeans, overly energised and excited when I notice Dimitri looking at me warily.
"Comrade?"
He waits for me to change into a tank top before he pulls me into his arms and presses me against him. I rest my head against his chest, hearing the familiar sound of his heartbeat. His soft hands stroke my hair on my back. We stay for a while before I pull away and kiss him.
"Be careful Roza. Please." He murmurs against my lips.
My own stretch into a small grin. "I'll try my best."
