Three of the five Strigoi go to Alberta and the other two come to me. Stupid idiots, I think swinging my stake in my hand. Either it was the fact that I was younger or smaller than Alberta or that they heard her comment on protecting me, but they if they think i'm going to be an easy kill then they are defiantly wrong.
They both attack at once, the man going for my neck straight away and the girl being smarter and aiming for my hand holding the stake. I use it to my advantage, dodging out of the way from the man and using her closeness to the stake to lash out and cut along her hand. She yelled in pain and attacked again but I was ready. I swung out of the way, stabbing her back and immediately retrieving the stake to hit the man in the stomach, an easier option than the heart when fighting two people. I kick the mans legs out from underneath him and he falls but before I can get him, Im hit in the side by the girl.
She recovered quicker than I thought from the stab but with the man still on his knees waiting to heal, I can use majority of my attention on her. My side stings from her hit but I lash out quickly to hit the side of her face. She was only protecting her chest area. Her hand involuntarily came up to side and I used my stake to hit her other hand away, drawing blood at her wrist before plunging my stake into her heart.
I don't have time to keep the stake in for as long as I had wished as the man finally gets up. I see his eyes momentarily flicker towards the body on the ground and anger flashes across his face. That and a hint of fear in his red ringed blue eyes.
I smile wickedly at him and attack blindly and quickly. Hitting his arms and legs and dodging from his attacks before hitting more and more until he has to move it hands from in front of his chest. Once again my stake finds the heart and he stops moving.
I straighten up and see Alberta still struggling with two of her three. I move towards her to help, when a figure comes flying out of the hotel doors. I barely have time to brace myself before I am slammed into and practically thrown against a brick wall seven metres away. It hurts and I hear a defining crack as my front hits the wall.
Despite the black dots flooding my vision, I get up quickly and turn. I see the Strigoi who hit me. I know straight away that he is old, older than any I have ever seen with grey streaks through brown hair.
We circle each other and dodge and hit. He is ridiculously fast and strong, getting in twice as many hits to my body that I do to him. He hits me in the knee with his leg, the kick so fast I didn't even see it and my leg buckles slightly. I see him close in to me and in a moment of panic I lash out with my stake.
Thankfully if cuts a slash into his side and he stumbles back a step giving me time to regain composure. I am dizzy from what I'm guessing is a head wound from hitting the wall but I am not dying. Not today.
I grit my teeth and attack again before he has time to completely heal. He hits my arm with such strength that I cry out, but I manage to bring up my stake and cut a long cut down his temple and cheek. He screams in agony and once again I try to shove my stake into his heart.
He turns at the last minute and I hit to far to the right. It still hurts him though, I can tell when I bring his legs out from under him. He goes crashing to the ground and I leap on him, retrieving my stake to get his heart. His hands come up to grab mine and push the stake away form his heart, his nails digging into my skin.
He isn't nearly as strong anymore, just a normal Strigoi and I know I can do it. Throwing all my weight into my arms I push down. The stake has just pieced his clothes when he brings up his foot and kicks me so hard in the stomach that once again I go flying back. Complete and utter agony shudders through my body starting at my stomach and I know something has happened internally. I heard a crack when I hit the wall again coming from my head.
The pain isn't the problem though. The problem is my stake now lies metres to the left and no matter how hard I try I cant seem to stand. Panic rises in my at the thought of being paralysed but the sane part of my brain registers the pain in my leg from his kick to know I can still feel my legs.
The Strigoi doesn't seem to waste time before he is in front of me.
He reaches down and has only just got his disgusting hands in my hair to pull me up when his hand goes limp and he thrashes around in pain. Alberta stands, free of her three Strigoi who lie on the ground where she was fighting, with her stake in the Strigoi's back, no doubt she hit heart when he eventually goes limp.
She pushes him away and quickly checks our surroundings. No other Strigoi are apparent which makes me wonder how many more of those fast and strong Strigoi were already in the hotel. Hans had told us there was a big group who attacked the princess and a tear slips from my eye.
Not because of my pain, but from my worry of Dimitri. The only thing keeping me from pushing through the agony is that he hasn't used whatever Alberta had given him. Although the first tear had been from fear, more seem to flow due to my pain.
Alberta kneels quickly in front of me as black spots invade my vision. She starts to breathe heavier and says something I cant hear due to the ringing in my ears. She talks again but I shake my head to let her know I can't hear her.
I'm only vaguely aware when Alberta's face is replaced by Dimitri's. His eyes are hard and panic is prominent on his beautiful face. Blood is also present, it is running out of his nose and in his mouth. I see his lips move and I think he said my name but i'm not sure. I feel something wet on the side of my face and reach my hand up despite the stabbing pain it causes my middle to feel it. Blood is streaming down my temple from a cut on my forehead that now that I know its there, I can feel.
My eyes flutter closed for a second and when I open them, Dimitri has moved to my side. I watch him for a while before I realise he is going to lift me up. I nod and he wraps his hands around my armpits and pulls me up. I groan and lean my body against his side. I don't mean to put all my weight on him but I can't seem to stop it.
I see the other guardians standing close to the car, with David ushering a red headed girl into the car along with a girl with a piece of material wrapped around her arm, soaked with blood. She is the princess's only living guardian left.
The world begins to spin and I give one last look to Dimitri before my eyes close and don't open again.
