By the time fifth period rolled around, Roman was fully awake -- and fully enthusiastic to engage with the new kid once again. Because of his adventurous nature, meeting new people was not simply an enjoyable experience for Roman, it was a quest! No matter who it was.
Mr. Tamm's classroom was warm that day. Maybe it was because of the excessive windows, blinds open, facing the sun. The middle aged teacher looked perfectly comfortable in his long sleeved, plaid button-up, so Roman assumed that this would be one of his warmer classes for the rest of the year.
Because of the warmth, he removed his red scarf (he planned on wearing it as much as possible, for he adored the luminous red color) and sat down. He was, unsurprisingly, the first to arrive at his table but the second to arrive in his group. As Mr. Tamm had informed the students the day prior, most labs would be done with your seat partner, but many of them would also be done in groups of four. Conveniently, Logan and Patton were part of the four.
Logan had arrived first, as per usual. Roman had met the boy officially in junior year, but they lived on the same street, so had seen each other around. If he was being honest, Roman wasn't too fond of the nerd. He was condescending, serious, and didn't really have a sense of humor. Plus, Roman could tell that Logan didn't like him very much either. However, that wasn't going to stop him from talking. Part of him did enjoy getting on the nerd's nerves -- something about maintaining his social superiority by poking at the boy was satisfying. No one was too good for Roman -- and he was determined to make it apparent to Logan.
The boy was wearing his usual attire: a black button-up and a blue tie. Actually, the button-up was navy blue today -- not that it really made a difference. He also had exchanged his blue jeans from the previous day for khakis. How fitting.
When Roman greeted him with a "what's up, Logan?" he responded with a turn of his head and an adjustment of his glasses.
Logan sighed. "I am going to assume that you are using the slang term and not asking me what is physically above my head. To that, I say, 'not much.' Good afternoon, Roman." He looked pleased with himself.
Roman smirked and shook his head. Something about the boy's literal nature made him almost comical -- definitely entertaining at the very least.
Patton was the next to arrive. He, coincidentally, also lived nearby to Roman -- just a street up. He seemed to be wearing an identical outfit to the one he had been the day prior -- or it was the same outfit; Roman couldn't tell. He greeted Roman with a warm but tight smile. He looked out of breath.
"Hey there, Roman," the boy said. He sat down with a sigh.
Roman leaned a little forward in his seat, so to converse easier. "Hello to you as well, my friend."
Virgil was the last to arrive. He seemed tired and entered the classroom with a scowl on his face. Roman assumed that this would be a norm, judging by the boy's personality. When he saw Virgil's gaze match his, Roman noticed how his face flickered with a look of apprehension. To that, Roman raised an eyebrow.
"Hello Virgil," he said with a smile despite his slight confusion.
The boy just sighed and adjusted his jacket before sitting down.
"Not going to say anything?" Roman asked. Oh he's going to be difficult, is he?
Virgil rolled his eyes to the right and clicked his tongue. "Nope." He pressed his lips together into a line of annoyance. It had literally been fifteen seconds. What was this guy's problem?
Roman scoffed. "How charming you are, Virgil." He rolled his eyes and took out his chemistry binder. "I'm sure you've made a lovely amount of friends so far."
