Before we start this chapter, can I just vaguely talk about how much the most recent Sander's Sides video had me
s h o o k.
(Feel free to message me about it idk.)Like, I don't want to say too much in case someone hasn't seen it yet, but WOW. Literally replayed that little sarcastic clapping part 15 times.
Enough of that, though. Onto what you came here for:
Logan's chapter awaits!
"It's good to be talking again," Patton sighed, blinking his fluffy brown lashes in the gray light from the window. Out the corner of his eye, he could see the rain plummeting down from the rolling clouds. He found himself thinking back to the time where he and Logan had played in the rain.
Logan nodded in response. "Yes," he agreed, solemnly nodding his head with a heavy blink. The rain seemed to be making him sleepy.
The focus of Patton's eyes drifted from the dining room window to his untouched math homework. This had seemed to become a routine for the two of them -- not doing Patton's homework. He always ended up finishing it one way or another, but instead of taking the half hour that it had taken before, it now took nearly the whole night.
Patton didn't mind so much, though. It meant he and Logan got a number of hours alone to talk -- and that was especially rewarding after their fight (if you could call it that).
The two lapsed into silence. They had already discussed school and homework and the camping trip; small talk was sort of out of the way. And then, after a couple minutes of listening to the rain pattering down, eyes closed, Patton heard Logan speak.
His voice was soft and tentative. It wasn't a usual tone of voice for Logan; he was often confident and matter-of-fact. This time, however, something was different. "I wish I could ask you what you think of me." Patton opened his eyes and saw that Logan was looking out through the window, not at him.
"What do you mean?" Patton asked, craning his neck so that maybe he could see Logan's face a little better. "Don't you know? I mean, you're one of my best friends, after all." He felt his hands start to unnecessarily fidget. Something about Logan's tone had given him the impression that something very serious was about to happen.
Logan sighed and paused before answering. "Not quite like that," he vacillated. He hesitated in thought. Patton could see the boy's furrowed brow from where he sat.
Patton blinked. "Then like what?" he inquired.
Logan shook his head. "I don't know what I'm talking about," he conceded. "I just have this feeling that..." he turned so that he could look at Patton out the corner of his eye, " -- that I'm waiting for something to happen."
Me too, Patton found himself thinking. They were waiting for something to happen between them; they were currently at a standstill in their friendship. It was strange to him now that Patton had never noticed the feeling before. He felt like he should say something back, but was interrupted.
A knock sounded at the door.
The trance between Logan and Patton broke and Logan stood up from the dining room table. He gave the payne's gray door a look of pure confusion. The two had held their tutoring session at Logan's today, for Patton had finally convinced Logan that it was unfair to only have one of them walking the short distance between their houses all of the time. The only odd thing was that Logan had only agreed because he knew that no one would be home to bother them. Both his mom and dad worked very late, with their high paying, executive-stature jobs, and neither came home before ten p.m.
