When the vampire disease begins to spread, scientists gave up on finding a cure. The new vampires went crazy for blood, without restraining themselves, and soon enough, humans were an endangered food source. The humans that were left, became personal blood slaves to royalty and wealthy vampires, or taken by the government and sent to blood farms.
The surviving humans went into hiding. Bell's family was among these. Survival groups were formed. Bell was 7 when the apocalypse began, and is now 17. Bell is captured and sent to a blood farm.
