The school reminded me of a dollhouse, with its tall sturdy walls and it's closed off... everything. It felt more like a stone-cold prison than anything else... How would this place ever be a school? I've been doing nothing but going to school, home and sleeping for my entire life, I didn't mind school. This just didn't feel... school-like.
How did that song go again? Hey girl... Open the walls, play with your dolls... We'll be a perfect family...
Yeah... Right.
I checked around for what made the sound but I couldn't find anything. I wasn't an idiot, I knew how horror movies worked. I kept Asra in my sight, not moving too far into the class rooms when I checked them. I always glanced back to check up on him around every thirty seconds, just in case.
Nothing...
I checked around some more, finally finding the cause of the sound. When I opened the decaying wooden door, that creaked and sounded like it was about to come off the hinges, I could see birds quickly swarm the air and fly out through a small hole in a closed-up window.
Sticks scattered the cold cement ground, obviously not put in the nest that was laying in the middle of the floor. Just birds, I reminded myself, turning around to head back to Asra.
Still asleep...
It was getting dark outside quickly, which meant it was only getting colder. I stayed close to Asra, trying to preserve as much body heat as we possibly could. I glanced out the window that we squeezed through, shivering softly as another aggressive gust of cold wind brushed past us. No flashing lights or sirens yet...
Fucking dammit... How long until those fucking cops show up...? Will they come when we're both frozen to icicles or what? It's cold as fuck out here...
I shivered softly and my breath had turned frosty, a small cloud of see-through white coming from my mouth.
Then I heard another noise.
Fucking birds... Just go away and stay like that. Or at least shut up...
I stood up carefully again. If I didn't keep the birds away, they would wake him up. I couldn't let him wake up. He needs his rest, we ran so far just to make it here. He needs to be rested for the next time we move again.
I glanced back, seeing him not as curled as before, which was a good sign. He obviously looked a bit warmer than he previously had been.
I moved my way into the hallway, heading to the door that I found the birds. When I got there, I didn't see anything. The nest wasn't there, neither were the sticks. No eggs either, or birds.
I pretty much felt like I just flatlined. Everything froze and I felt like my heart just suddenly stopped it's beating rhythm.
He's... No wait he can't be...
Fuck, ASRA!
Fuck, if that freak is in here with us- he could be going straight for him!! I need to get back to him!
I spun around on my heel quicker than I ever have, about to run head first right through the doorway and back to Asra.
When... suddenly I was met with cold metal, right to my forehead.
A gun...
And I looked up into the dark eyes of my father, who was wielding it in his cold hands as he smiled at me.
"Hi, Zachary."
A/N: I'm so sorry for cutting it this short, I don't mean to, but I didn't want to keep my lovely readers waiting for like, months for the next chapter. Note, this story doesn't have very many chapters left, only around maybe 2 or 3 and then I'll be working on Dying In Darkness and THEN I'll be editing shit.
Sorry for cliffhanger btw. I'm typing this at school so I can't talk long!! Sorry!! I'll try to update again soon. Baiiiii!!
